Linear model starting in objectives and
ending with evaluation
Consists of four steps:
Determine the school’s purposes or objectives
Identify educational experiences related to the
purpose
Organize the experiences
Evaluate the purposes
Unit: Verb Tenses
Lesson plan
 School: New York Elementary School
 Grade: 6th grade
 Unit: Verb Tenses
 Duration: 5 sessions of 60 minutes
 Objective: Learn the present, past, and
future tenses of verbs and their correct use in
sentences.
Lesson plan: Day #1
Overview of verbs
 Objectives:
 Students will be able to explain what a verb is.
 Students will be able to identify verbs in sentences.
 Student will be able to choose pictures related or representing the verb.

 Content:
 Evaluate the student’s prior knowledge about verbs.
 Explain the goals of the topic.
 Students needs to understand what is a verb and its function within a sentence.
 Students will understand verbs through their representation in pictures.
Lesson plan Day #2:
Present Tense
 Objectives:
 Students will be able to identify the present verb tense by circling.
 Students will be able to write sentences using the present verb tense.

 Content:
 Review of the definition and function of verbs.
 Explain the goals of the topic.
 Students will identify the present verb tense in sentences.
 Students will write sentences using the present verb tense.
 Identify the present verb tense in different literary genres.
Lesson plan Day #3:
Past Tense
 Objectives:
 Students will be able to identify the past verb tense.
 Students will be able to write sentences using the past verb tense.
 Students will apply the correct verb tense within a sentence,

 Content:
 Review of the present verb tense.
 Explain the purpose of the new topic.
 Students will discuss among the class what they know about tenses of verbs and the
past verb tense.
 Students will identify the verb in sentences and compare the tenses.
 Students will fill out a chart writing the present and past verb tenses of different verbs.
Lesson plan Day #4:
Future Tense
 Objectives:
 Students will be able to identify the future verb tense.
 Students will be able to construct a sentence using the future verb tense.
 Students will be able to participate in a class activity of verb tenses.

 Content:
 Review of the present and past verb tenses.
 Explain the purpose of the new topic.
 Students will understand the grammar rules and usage of future tense verbs.
 Students will formulate sentences using the future verb tense.
 Students will complete the previous chart with the future verb tense of each word.
Lesson plan Day #5:
Review and Activity
 Objectives:
 Students will able to discuss the
differences between the present, past, and
future verb tenses.
 Student will be able to complete an
activity worksheet.

 Content:
 Explain the purpose of the lesson.
 Students will divide in groups to discuss
the verb tenses.
 Students will complete a worksheet with
three activities about verb tenses.
