TATLONG KUWENTO NI LOLA
BASYANG
▪ Is a ballet adaptation of Severino Reyes’
folktales Mga Kuwento ni Lola Basyang.
▪ It was meant to instill and rekindle the
interest of the Filipino youth in the beauty,
richness, and values found in Philippine
Literature.
▪ The typical storytelling scene shows a
grandmother Lola Basyang on a rocking
chair, with her grandchildren gathered
around listening to her fascinating tales.

1. Ang Kapatid ng Tatlong Marya


- A fantasy story set to neo-enthnic
music in a contemporary style.
- It is about a hero’s journey to
different kingdoms in pursuit of his
bewitched sisters.
- Music by Joey Ayala
- Choreography by Lisa Macuja-
Elizalde

BASYANG features the following
stories:

2. Ang Mahiwagang Biyulin


- This is a local version of Pied Piper tale
where the main character mesmerizes his
followers through the music of violin.
- Moral lesson: good triumphs over evil.
- Music by Ryan Cayabyab, arranged by
Arnold Abuena
- Choreography by Tony Fabella

3. Ang Prinsipe ng mga Ibon


- This is a love story where a princess
falls in love with a bird.
- Music is taken from selected musical
works of National Artists, arranged by
Mon Faustino
- Choreography by Osias Barroso
Second Episode: TATLONG
KUWENTO NI LOLA BASYANG
features the following stories:

1. Ang Palasyo ng mga Duwende


- A romantic adventure about a heroine named
Yani whose heart is a s beautiful as her
appearance.
- The story revolves around how Yani saves
her father from the Queen’s spell that put him
to sleep and how she manages to survive the
cruelty of her stepmother and stepsister back
home.
Second Episode: TATLONG
KUWENTO NI LOLA BASYANG
features the following stories:

2. Labindalawang Masasayang Prinsesa


- This is a romantic fantasy about 12 daughters of the
king.
- These 12 princesses secretly leave their bedroom at
night to travel to an enchanted land and dance with
the princes.
3. Anting-Anting
- This is a horror-comedy in which the cowardly hero
Huan Tries to overcome his fears in order to win his
love,

The Indian Epic Behind the
Musical Production
Ramayana
▪ the story revolves around Prince Rama, the ledest son of
Dasaratha, King of Ayodha, who has three wives and four sons –
Rama, Bharata, and the twins Lakshamana and Satrughna.
▪ Rama, considered in incarnation of the Hindu god Vishnu, is in
line to the throne after his father decides to retire.
▪ But his stepmother’s intervention prevents this succession.
▪ She relies on the kings promise to grant her any two wishes she
desires
▪ She wants her own son, Rama’s younger stepbrother, Bharata to
be the king.
▪ Despite the kings’ pleading, she opt to have Rama banished to the
forest for 14 years.

Ramayana
▪ Rama, together with his wife Sita and his younger brother
Lakshamanamoves to the woods of Panchavati.
▪ Bharata pleads Rama to return and take his rightful throne.
▪ Rama refuses, as an alternative, Bharata sk to bring Rama;s
sandals to be place on the king’s throne as a symbol of his
authority until he would return after 14 years.
▪ They come across Ravana, a ten-headed ruler of Lanka and
one of the forest evil creature.
▪ Ravana abduct Sita and force to marry him.
▪ Rama is able to kill Ravana and take rescue Sita

Ramayana
▪ However, in keeping with the dharma, Rama demands
Sita to prove her purity.
▪ Sita was able to prove, and Ram takes her back and
return to Ayodha and Rama became king.
▪ Rama, Sita, and Bharata all set a good example of
following tge dharma
▪ Thus, Ramayana become a national symbol of the
divine virtues from which Indian great leaders,
including Mahatma Gandhi, have drawn their
inspirations.
