“Milamo” Olongapo Civic Center

“Mila Lamo”

Like how the name of our city was formed, the title of the proposal
came from the zambal words “Pila Lamo” which means “Magsama”.
Olo nin apo or ulo ng apo in tagalog are the words where Olongapo
came from. Apo was a great leader of Olongapo back then even
before the Spaniards discovered the Phillipines, and Apo was the
leader that made the warring tribes of Olongapo to unify and
harmonize. Apo’s objective was the main inspiration of the
proposal’s title which is to bring harmony in the city.
Function

The whole 4.4633 hectare of the contiguous area of Marikit Park will
be developed as a meeting, incentives, conventions, exhibitions or
MICE Complex. This is archetype by a convention center, business
processing outsourcing center, shops, department store,
supermarket and cinema in a multi - storey building. A multi - storey
hotel will complete the MICE character of the complex. In addition,
the Museum and Marikit Park will be restored in the area
maintaining the preservation of City’s history and heritage.
Function (Main Building)

As for the Multi – Storey Hotel it will also be a huge factor for the
said 4,000 potential job employment. Olongapo City is the only
local government unit within the Subic Bay area that is most
capable of complementing the development activities in the bay
area. With that said the development of a Multi – Storey Hotel will
be an addition to the numerous good class hotel inside SBFZ, it will
also allow the city to provide good service industry independently to
accommodate tourists.
Justification of the Proposal

There exist a demand of meeting, incentives, conventions,

exhibitions and events tourism industry in the region(MICE). Taking
advantage of this opportunity is feasible, considering the City of
being proximate to the corporate industrial doors of the W growth
corridor. Olongapo City can conveniently cater incomparably to the
demand of this particular industry. It is the 3rd objective of the city
to redevelop the contiguous area of Marikit Park into a Regional
Convention Destination, a Finance, and Business Outsourcing Center.

Architectural Character

Modern Architecture
Modern architecture, or modernist
architecture was based upon new and innovative
technologies of construction, particularly the use
of glass, steel and reinforced concrete; the idea
that form should follow function
(→functionalism); an embrace of minimalism;
and a rejection of ornament.[ It emerged in the
first half of the 20th century and became
dominant after World War II until the 1980s,
when it was gradually replaced as the principal
style for institutional and corporate buildings by
postmodern architecture.
