Defination

Branch of Medical Science.

Art and science

Deals with disease process, diagnosis and effective t/m


and prevention of diseases of teeth, gum and other hard
and soft tissues of oral cavity.
IMPORTANCE OF TEETH AND
ORAL CAVITY
1) GATE WAY TO OUR BODY.

Entry point to our body.

Dirtiest part of our body.

Oral health first step to general health.

Good oral hygiene-good to achieve good oral health


is the first step to good general health.
2) ORAL CAVITY AS MIRROR OF GENERAL HEALTH OF BODY.

-Physicians examine the tongue and oral cavity to examine the


health of a person where as a psychologist examines it to diagnos
the mental health of a person.

-AIDS-immunocompromised.lichen planus, candidiasis. Caposy


sarcoma.

-Immunocopromised patients-steroid therapy-eg.kidney


transplant. Appear White Lesions-lichen
planus,candidiasis,submucos fibrosis.

-Minor and major Aphthous ulcers. Generalised weekness of


body.

-Syphillis –chankre. Guma.

-Tuberculosis-ulcers on tongue with inverted borders.
