Introduction
 Inan average home, about 20% to 40% of energy are
consumed by light sources. While it’s not much
comparing to other applications, it’s something we
can control.

A decade ago, the main choice for lighting were

incandescent bulbs

 Thatdays are long gone, now there are option which

are more efficient than incandescent bulbs.
continuation
 The energy efficient alternatives were released a few years
back to consumers.

 They provide more light per energy consumed and have

longer life span.
Conventional
 Anincandescent light bulb is an electric light with a
wire filament heated to such a high temperature
that it glows with visible light.

 They are not efficient because about 90% of the

energy it uses is dissipated as heat, which means
only 10% of the energy it consume is converted to
light.
Proposed
 Energy saving tubes or light sources provide same or
better lighting and consumes significantly less power.

 Themain alternatives that emerging now are LED

bulbs and tubes.
Block diagram
Working
 LEDbulbs and tubes consist of 1 or more LED(Light
Emitting Diodes).

A light-emitting diode is a two-lead semiconductor

light source. It is a p–n junction diode that emits light
when activated.
contiuation

 When a suitable voltage is applied to the leads,

electrons are able to recombine with electron holes
within the device, releasing energy in the form of
photons.
Comparison
 Compared to incandescent bulbs and fluorescent
bulbs, LED lights provide more lights per watt(Lumens
per watt)

 LED lights are more long lasting than others.

 Contains no harmful chemical.

 Less heat output.

Advantages
 Energy efficient

 Long lasting

 No harmful chemicals

 Available in variety of light types.

Disadvantages
 Initial cost is high compared to incandescent and
CFL.

 Light slightly dependent on ambient temperature.

Future Scope
 Usingthese energy saving lighting solutions in street,
public areas can reduce the energy consumption.

 Replacing all lightings at home with these can

drastically reduce energy bills.
Conclusion
 Atthis time where number of electronics are
increasing, saving energy from anywhere is a good
thing.

 Theseenergy saving lighting solutions will surely help

in achieving that also reducing the future energy
shortage.
