SHIVAM KHOSLA MUSKANPREET KAUR ANKIT MEHRA SHALINI SHALINI What is Jio ? Jio is a telecom company owned by Reliance Industries. Itsmain focus is to provide best internet to people at best prices and thanks to jio, India now has one of the cheapest internet service in the world. Impact of Jio on the market
Beforethe introduction of jio, the internet
service was slow and expensive. Before the introduction of jio, the average gigabyte of mobile data costed around $5. When Jio was introduced, it gave very strong competition to other companies by giving 1Gb per day for one month for just $7. Company’s Strategy
Unlike other companies, Jio did not offer cheap
plans in the beginning. In fact, It offered “Free” internet for an year. It offered only 4G service which was not offered by many companies at that time. Launch of Jio Giga Fiber
It is launched in the same way as jio telecom was
introduced. Company is offering 100GB per month of free data in selected cities for a refundable deposit of $90. GigaFiber is expected to offer fast internet connectivity for homes at quite affordable rates. Plus Reliance will be bundling a lot of additional services, including the Jio DTH service when it launches later. What is the approach the technology? Reliance has started a public beta test for consumers and is expanding its fiber network massively across major cities of the country. Consumers can pay Rs 4,500 / $90 as a security deposit and get complimentary access to 100GB of data per month at 100Mbps. About the Technology Optical fiber is used by many telecommunications companies to transmit telephone signals, Internet communication, and cable television signals. Researchers at Bell Labs have reached internet speeds of over 100 petabit per second using fiber-optic communication. Due to much lower interference, optical fiber has large advantages over existing copper wire in long-distance, high-demand applications. Structure of a fiber optic cable Cost Factor
The prices of fiber-optic communications have dropped
considerably since 2000. The price for rolling out fiber to the home has currently become more cost-effective than that of rolling out a copper based network. By 2002, an intercontinental network of 250,000 km of submarine communications cable with a capacity of 2.56 Tb/s was completed, and although specific network capacities are privileged information, telecommunications investment reports indicate that network capacity has increased dramatically since 2004. Challenges
Financial Challenges: As it is new company, so they have
made mobile towers and for this it will cost lot of money for them. They also have to buy land for opening the new customer service buildings. Technical challenges: The main technical challenges for jio company is that they needed the high number of good Technician which can help them effectively and efficiently. Another important issue is that India is very large country and for making tower it will take lot time and man power to lay down the optical fibres in India. Cultural challenges: India is country of diverse culture and languages. Jio has to face lot of cultural problems like language issue like in south of india the language is different to north india. So, they have to hire local employers which can speak local language. This will help the company to expand quickly in India. Comparison of Before and After
Reliance jio started fibre to home broadband
service in 2016 in India which is called jio gigafibre. The telecom operator started its journey with maximum 215 million subscribers within 22 months by being the first to give free local service with unlimited data, in cheap price all over the country. Jio Gigafibre could influence the industry by introducing new services Jio gigafiber is hoping to launch jio DTH service. It also offers an add on jio giga tv set top box connection. The company will offer new services like HD video and voice calling directly from the tv. For this the co-partner reliance would offer a free jio giga tv connection at home. With the broadband service the company will put the jio set top box at home for the DTH service which seems to be fair. They had done with the infrastructure and can launch it any time after august.
