• Asoka Mitran (born September 22, 1931) is one of
the most influential figures in post-independent
Tamil literature.
• He began his literary career with the prize winning
play "Anbin Parisu", followed by many short stories,
novellas and novels.
• A distinguished essayist and critic, he is the editor of
the literary journal "Kanaiyaazhi".
• He has written over 200 short stories, eight novels,
some 15 novellas besides other prose writings.
• Most of his works have also been translated into
English.

Robert Clive
• Robert Clive, one of the most flamboyant personalities
in the history of British India.
• He was only 19 when he began his career as a clerk for
the East India Company at Fort St George in Chennai.
• Soon tiring of paperwork, he became a soldier and
fought many successful battles including the Carnatic
Wars, which established the company's rule in South
India.
• Clive was given the Stewardship of Fort St George and
later become Governor of Bengal.
• The wealth he amassed in India led to his trial, in
England, on charges of corruption.
• Clive committed suicide in 1774.
