Traversing
FC 1120-LAND SURVEYING I
 Traverse
Year I Semester I A series of connected straight each joining two
points on the ground is called a traverse.

Topic:-Compass Survey End points are known as traverse stations, and

straight lines between two consecutive stations , are
called traverse legs.

Traverse may be either a Closed Traverse or an Open

Traverse.

Closed Traverse Closed Circuit Traverse

 Closed Traverse
The lines either return to the starting point or close on a
point of known position. Known
Point
 If it returns to the starting point, the traverse is called a
closed circuit traverse.
 When closing to a different point of known Position, it
is called a closed connecting traverse

Closed connecting traverse

Open Traverse

 Open Traverse
Known Point
The traverse which neither returns to its stating station

nor closes on any other known station, is called an open
Point
traverse.

 The Earth acts like a great spherical magnet, in that it is
surrounded by a magnetic field. TN GN

north and south magnetic poles are not located in the same
place.
