MUSA ACUMINATA

DISHWASHING LIQUID
BANANA PEELINGS DISHWASHING LIQUID
ii. Rationale
Musa Acuminata or “Banana Peels” have special cleaning properties that
make them a tremendous environmentally friendly cleaning product. The
fibrous part (cellulose) of a banana peel helps clean the wall and other
materials.
The moist peel of a banana contains many useful cleaning enzymes and
organic cleaning chemicals that are not only effective but are safe for the
environment.
Banana peels, also give fresh and pleasurable scent. They are also
biodegradable, which makes them completely risk free to the environment.
iii. Objectives
To develop an eco-friendly dishwashing liquid that contains organic and natural
ingredients.
To determine the effectiveness of musa acuminata as an organic ingredient for
alternative or substitute for commercial dishwashing liquids.
To produce a dishwashing liquid that has the benefits of a musa acuminata and also
has a pleasing aroma.
To lessen the wastage of banana peels, and turn them into a useful organic product
that can help efficiently and effectively in washing our dishes on a daily basis.
To make a dishwashing liquid that can aid in the reduction of water pollution.
iv. Proposed Materials
¼ kg of banana peels
1/2 cup (3.5 oz) Washing Soda
1 cup (8 oz) Water 1 cup
(8 oz) Liquid Castile Soap
1/2 tbsp Vegetable Glycerin
v. Proposed Procedures
• First, bring water into a boil. Second, while waiting for the water to boil completely,
wash the banana peels. Third, cut the banana peelings into small peices (you can also
blend them or pund using mortar and pestle). Next, Filter the blended peelings on a
filter paper or clothe and extract the liquid. After that, place the extracted liquid into
the boiling water, mix it until it thickens and let it cool completely. Then, pour
washing soda into a large glass bowl then stir in the cooled banana peeling mixture,
continue stirring until the washing soda is completely dissolved. Next, when the
mixture is at room temperature, stir in the castile soap and glycerin until well
combined. Lastly, store the detergent in a glass bottle. For further experimentations,
use 2 table spoons of Musa Acuminata Dishwashing Liquid Soap per large sink of
water. For best results, rinse dishes washed in the Banana Peeling Liquid Soap in a
sink of water with 1 cup of white vinegar added.
