the fastest performance after boasting a distinctive 00:38.04 seconds in Girl’s 50m Breast Stroke
at the 2017 Palarong Pambansa held in Binirayan Swimming Pool.
Laguna tanker Encarnacion vaulted over the other eight fastest swimmers of the country in
semifinals after flaunting an inimitable 00:37.60 seconds nearly breaking the fastest record of NCR
Raizza Regatta Gavino with 00:36.63 mark during the 56th Palarong Pambansa.
“I am truly proud of her achievements [Roz Ciaralene]. Our hard work has paid off,” Carlo
Encarnacion, Roz Ciaralene’s father, said merrily during the interview.
More so, CALABARZON has 6 silver and 7 bronze medals tally in swimming [as of press time].
Under the 200m Relay Secondary Boys were silver medalists Edgar Hin Louise Chee (Rizal), Jose

Geronimo (Tanauan City) ended in 50 Butterfly Andrei Luis Geronimo ( Tanauan City ) with silver
medal respectively.
The 4x50 MR Secondary Girls bronze medalists were Alexandra Maria Burog ( Batangas), Gabrielle
Madelaine Gonzalvo (Lipa City) and Purisima Ann Gabrielle.
Moreover, Leeya Biatriz Marbella (Batangas City) and Ani Denya Ona (Lipa City) concluded 400m
Freestyle Secondary Girls while Mervien Jules Merandilla (Lucena City) and Erika Nicole Burgos
(Calamba City) finished in 200m Fly Secondary Boys.

Barbero shines in three-pointer
SIBALOM, Antique—It was a doodle day on the court for CALABARZON secondary dribblers.
CALABARZON cagers reigned supreme in their opening game as they dominated crowd’s
favourite Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) ballers after pulling off a remarkable 112-64
victory in 2017 Palarong Pambansa Men’s Secondary Basketball held at San Pedro Gymnasium
on Monday.
San Beda pride Liam Balbero fired a game-high 18 points with 12 rebounds while Luke Sese
posted 16 points.
Team captian and Three-time Palaro athlete Josua Tagala chipped in 14 points and 7 rebounds;
JM Lagumen made 8 assists.
“I think our game’s advantage is height and also our offensive and plays. Shootings have been
in our favour all throughout the game. This is really our day,” said Tagala.
Sese waxed hot on the opening as he delivered two consecutive three-pointer marks, 6-0, at the
first quarter.
Earlier, the team flaunted a 26-point advantage, 61-35, to conclude the first half.
“Isa rin po siguro sa naging advantage is our experience. I also observed that CAR players keep
blaming each other during the game. I believe that communication has a big role to win the
game,” Tagala added.
CALABARZON ended the third quarter with a two-point buzzer-beater from Lian Barbero, 90-50
and finished with 48-point lead leaving CAR team on a depressing stand, 112-64.
Secondary paddlers fell short to propel to Finals
Deocaeza, Sevilla conclude 3-1 trounce
SAN JOSE, Antique—James Angelo Deocareza and Alvin Sevilla failed to keep their clean standing ( 3-0 win-loss record)
as they were unsuccessful to book to the finals [as of press time] after their below par loss against National Capital
Region (NCRA) supreme Elijah Chars Johan Yamson and Romualdo Ramiro in 2017 Palarong Pambansa Secondary Men’s
Table Tennis (Team Event)held in ANTECO Gymnastics.
Sevilla delivered 20 points coming from seven aces, 14 attacks and six kills while Deocareza fired 24 points courtesy of
eight aces, 12 attacks and four kills to finish the match with 14-12, 11-3, 4-11, 11-9 loss and 11-2, 11-7, 7-11, 11-8 defeat
(3-1) respectively.
“Grade 11 na po kasi yung nakatapat ko . Hindi ko naman po ineexpect na NCR pa ang makakatapat namin agad,” said
Deocareza during the interview.
NCR ended with a bang as Yamson posted 33 points from 11 aces, 12 attacks and 10 kills while Romualdo executed 28
points from 9 aces, 16 attacks and 8 kill.
Down by first and second set, Deocareza, however, recovered at the third set curving out an excellent four-point lead at
the opening, 4-0, and concluded the set after firing a forceful four-to-nothing blitz from two attacks and kills to finish the
set, 11-7.
The Sta. Rosa pride Deocareza displayed agility and speed after exchanging a kill-after-kill shots and long rallies.
“Ginawa ko naman po lahat ang best ko pero talagang malakas lang po talaga ang kalaban tsaka ang alam ko po kasi dati
na rin po siyang naglalaro sa Palaro,” Deocareza explained.
At the fourth set, Deocareza was able to trim down a three-point deficit, 2-9, as he unleashed three-to-nothing run, 5-9,
but NCR answered back after firing an attack, 5-10.
Tired and exhausted Deocareza still able to retaliate at the crucial moment of final set after firing another three-to-
nothing run coming from down-the-line hit and attacks but Ramiro who has no plan to give in then fired a hit to end the
game, 5-11.
Earlier, Sevilla had also a two-set lost against Yamson but then recovered at the third set after delivering points
advantage from a remarkable attack-after-an-attack and ace-after-an-ace markers.
“Angelo and Alvin fought very well for this game. They performed outstandingly and that was the most important,” said
coach Noel Daclizon, Sports coordinator of Lumbangan National High School in Batangas Province.

VIGAN CITY—Defending Champion CALABARZON 4-A
goaltenders defiled their clean record as they bowed to
National Capital Region (NCR) with 3 win-1 loss record
concluding an 8-7 rout in 2018 Palarong Pambansa Goal Ball
Semifinals yesterday.
The third regu triumvirate brought the house down and turned the
table.
The third Regu team, however, started the opening on poor defense,
as Tekong John Mark Mallorca committed countless service errors
while Kenshin Puntay performed faultily on offense forcing the coach
to call for an early substitution by Vince Alyson Tormo and ended the
set with a dismal 15-21 output.
“Sa totoo lang po kabado talaga po ako, kasi po nasimulan po agad
ng errors pero hindi naman po ako napanghinaan ng loob,” Mallorca
said.
The team suddenly found their rhythm in the second set from start to
finish as they posted a big advantage after curving out a six-to-
nothing run in the opening and hacked out a four-to-nothing blitz in
the closing set resulting to a stunning 21-9 marker.
Region I, on the other hand, finished with 9 points from setter Gian
Cabannag and striker Jether Guido coming off from blocks and
attacks. The regu team, in contrast, played on poor receives.
Mallorca, though fell short in the first set, then, pulled through in the
third set, after exhibiting a series of aces aiding the team to erect a
four-point advantage during the crucial moment of the game, 15-10,
to trim an early deficit,11-10.
Region I Michael Casil committed a forced error that sent the game to
match point, 20-14, which then followed by an attack coming off
Caponpon that sealed the match, 21-14.
Sta. Fe Integrated School pride was at tail end, behind National Capital
Region (NCR), Region VI and Region III.
Moreover, Mark Jun Lamang, who was left behind 0.18 meter from Caringal,
concluded a bleak 11.03 meter distance and fell on the 7th mark.
Acalan broke off in the opening game after striking an untimely error
as she faultily pocketed the cue ball leaving Estefanio to hit a free
ball tallying four pockets off 1, 2, 3, and 4 color balls.
Estefanio then fired a hit placing the cue ball with obstruction that
forced Acalan to commit another error and made her way to pot a
ball in hand and successfully finish her campaign in Game1, 1-0.
On the other hand, Acalan found her form in Game 2 after forcing
Estefanio to commit a foul then struck a free ball potting the balls in
order to seal the match, 1-1.
It was not an easy game in the 3rd Match when Acalan and Estefanio
exchanged long rally as both failed to escape from the cue ball
position without obstruction not until when Acalan failed to pot the
desired ball leaving Estefanio successful to end the round with 2-1
mark.
Region III Mariel Abuan together with Region II Cherry Mae Banatoa
and Region Sairah De Vera finished with 1.60 meter but the former
stole the silver from an early schedule tryout.
NCR placed 6th as Princess Daniela Desepeda ended with 1.55 meter
and Cezlyn Favila of IV-B finished with an dismal 1.50 meter mark
placing at the tail end.
CALABARZON also bagged silver medal in Long Jump Elementay Girls as
Evita Ruth Belloso completed a 1.51 meter mark with two attempts while
Zairah Joy Talampas of Region III also recorded the same altitude with single
attempt to receive gold medal.
“Happy naman po ako sa result pero siyempre po mas okay po kung nakuha
ko po ang gold. Masaya po ako kasi may contribution po ako sa Region kahit
po silver,” Belloso said excitedly.
Moreover, NCR clinched bronze represented by Mharann Rose with 1.40
meter mark.
Region I fell down to 5th as Jenny Ordoñez concluded a 1.40 meter height
while Lorea Rose Segura (Region VI), Aloja Jane Flores (Region IV-B), Kaye
Bautista (Region VII) and Loraine Valencia (Region II) fell short to place on
the top.
Earlier, Jessel Lumapas clinched two gold medals after recording a 24.61 and
11.99 meter distances in Secondary Girls 200 and 100 meter event.
VIGAN CITY—Ethan Roy Go ended the race on 3rd podium to take home
bronze medal after clocking 2.33.88 minutes while Jordan Ken Lobos fell
short after concluding a bleak 4th place with 2:34.28 minutes markings
respectively in 200 LC Meter Breaststroke Secondary Boys respectively held
at Quirino Stadium yesterday.
“I just stayed focus and kept the agility and everything we did during the
training truly paid off. I owe a lot to my coach,” said Go during the interview.
Western Visayas Region placed 5th as Joseph Joaquin Lucio ended with
2:27.66 minutes and Gulliver Clive Clemente finished with an austere
2.37.74 minutes mark at 6th.
Recording a dismal finish to place 7th rank was Paul Andrew Rio Florido, from
Ilocos Region, with 2:40.76 while Martin Jose Sayson of Central Visayas
dropped at 8th.
Earlier, Go also bagged bronze medal as he completed a 2:33.88
clocking while Mervien Jules Mirandilla recorded 2:22.82 at 5th spot
in 200 LC Meter IM Secondary Boys.
On the other hand, NCR also clinched gold and silver represented by
Philip Joaquin Santos and Christian Sy with 2:13.05 and 2:16.53
clocking show respectively.
