Humidification
Humidification
DEFINITON
Humidifcation is the process by which the inspired
air is getting moistened by either the natural
mechanisms present in the respiratory tract or by
the artificial method used in the hospitals.
Here the excessive heat of the air is removed and
moisture of the air also controlled.
When natural process of humidification fails,
artificial humidification is used
METHOD OF ARTIFICIAL
HUMIDIFICATION
A FREE BREATHING PATIENT WHO IS NOT INTUBATED
1) A face mask
2) A mouth piece
These methods are used along with nebuliser as a short period of
humidification prior to chest clearance
A FREE BREATHING PATIENT WITH A TRACHEOSTOMY TUBE
1) T tube ( Brompton tube)
2) Tracheostomy mask
TYPES OF HUMIDIFIER
Boys and Howells
conservers of water.
CONSERVERS:
These heat and moisture exchangers or
condenser-humidifiers, trap expired heat and
water in a mesh, and return it to fresh inspired
gas.
They can be reasonably efficient but are prone to
blockage by secretions.
