Media Evaluation

Ryan Fulton
In what ways does your media product
use, develop or challenge forms and
conventions of real media products?
 Within our media group for producing ‘City Rush’ we used many
different techniques to make our final product of high quality.
 We created a questionnaire to get audience preferred viewing to
know who to aim out opening towards as well as what genre,
style etc within the opening itself.
 The camera shots we used within ‘City Rush’ were varied and fit
well with all aspects of the opening from the first person shots
to the pan shots.
 The general age of our audience for the opening is 12+, the
actual film itself if made would possible be 15+ as the film
contains various violent scenes.
 The main setting for this opening was Birmingham New Street,
and this worked pretty well as a main setting.
What kind of media institutions might
distribute your media product and why?
 The institutes that would be considered when it comes to who do we
think will distribute our opening would be institutes such as ‘Pathe’
as these are a British institute who have made films such as
Adulthood, which is a film aimed towards the younger youth, which
illustrates the gang warfare that is happening amongst the younger
generation, with the violence, drugs and crime.
 Our film can be linked into this sort of film as it shows what
extremes some people will go to, to ensure their point of view is put
across strongly and boldly.
What would be the audience to your
media product and why?
 The audience at which we aimed ‘City
Rush’ towards is a younger generation
where we can relate to them as well as get
them to understand the film along our
terms.
 This will show our view on politics and
society and the audience will be able to see
how easily someone can be affected by the
actions of others and what extremes they
will go to.
 Some of our audience will just watch the
movie due to the main location that the
film is situated in ‘Birmingham’ as this way
they an relate to the film more than if they
lived in a different country.
How did you attract/address your
audience?
 In order for us to attract the correct audience we put forth
certain measures to ensure we had a film fit for a vast
majority of the audience, in order to gain a vide variety of
the audience interested.
 We done this by creating a questionnaire and handing this
out to a varied audience in order to get varied results and
not just from one background or group of people. (The
questionnaire is shown on the next slide)
 We used varied shots such as the first person shot to engage
the audience and to believe they are there. We also used
certain special effects to attract the audience a good
example of this would be the siren at the end of the
opening, this will engage the audience to want to watch the
film as they will want to know what happens next.
What have you learnt from technologies from
the process of constructing this product?
 While constructing this movie I have gained a lot of
knowledge when it comes to creating a movie, as I now know
the steps that are required and how much effort goes in to
the film before and after the filming, the filming of the actual
movie is potentially the easiest part. Getting to know what the
audience wants, the storyboard, and by far the hardest part is
the editing of the final product.
 Using iMovie I was able to edit our groups
media product, this took the longest time
as there were various shots of each scene
and finding the best angle / shot with the
best lighting, people in the background
etc. but in the end this was successful and
I learnt how to use this software effectively
Looking back at your preliminary task, what
do you feel you have learnt in the progression
of constructing this product?
 Taking a look at the progress I made from the
preliminary task I can clearly notice how myself and
the group have progressed. The overall product was a
challenge as apposed to the preliminary task which
was ‘a walk in the park’. Putting the final product
together wasn’t as easy as I had thought but overall
the work that was put into the preliminary task
helped a lot with the final media piece, without doing
this before hand, it would of taken longer to produce
the final piece as we wouldn’t of known about certain
shots, how to use the software on the Mac laptops or
have a general idea of creating a media product.
