1.Construction of RCC Deck Slab supported on RCC MS line bored pile, beam including pavement for Hooghly River front Development work of KMC from Baja Kadamtala Ghat upto Fairlie Ferry Ghat at Kolkata. Project Cost = 25.34 Cr. 2. Development of Rabindranath Tagores Memorial Garden including repairing & renovation of existing double storied building (Red House) at Nimtala Burning Ghat of K.M.C. in Kolkata. Project Cost = 2.32 Cr. 3. Expansion of the Nimtala Burning Ghat in Kolkata, Project Cost = 13.66 Cr. 1) Hooghly River front Development work Original area of project could not be handed over to working agency due to lack of clearance from Ministry of Defence. So project was relocated to Armenium Jetty to Millenium park. Since that area was a jetty during British period lots of debris like wood, iron pieces encountered during piling work. So many places it became impossible to carry piling work
Work Challenges 2) Development of Rabindranath Tagores Memorial Garden a) The working platform was low. Piling work disrupted due to tidal water fluctuation around full moon days and new moon days. And contractors claim was working platform was well above highest water level indicated in tender drawing.
b) Superstructure was ISMB 500s to be bolted on pile cap which was round in shape and exact same diameter of pile. ISMB 450 and ISMB 300 were to be bolted to ISMB 500. It was not possible to fix ISMB 500 parallel to each other as piles shifted.
3) Expansion of the Nimtala Burning Ghat in Kolkata Land was not free as many religious structures were to be shifted Sheet piling upto 24 meter was necessary as construction of basement was to be underwater. But progress was slow/not satisfactory as working agency was driving sheet piles manually
Work Challenges Improvements Suggested / Implemented 1) Hooghly River front Development work After several site visits by higher officials of KMC, RITES and discussions design was modified. Pile points sifted, where piles could not reach to desired depth additional piles introduced. Some places ISMB sections used in superstructure. Improvements Suggested / Implemented 2) Development of Rabindranath Tagores Memorial Garden a) Working agency agreed to stop work during high tide rainy season and start work in winter where tide is low. The work was executed in planned manner with help of tide table. b) Pile cap was modified to bigger rectangular shape. 3) Expansion of the Nimtala Burning Ghat in Kolkata
Land was cleared by co-operation from local people Vibro-shinker used to speed up sheet piling work Project in Picture (Hooghly River front Development work) Project in Picture (Development of Rabindranath Tagores Memorial Garden) Project in Picture (Expansion of the Nimtala Burning Ghat in Kolkata) DPR for construction of diversion road from check-post of Lingaraj OCP to NH-200 for coal evacuation including a flyover and ROB on the level crossing (2.0km long) at Lingaraj area of Talcher coalfields of MCL.
