COURSE STRUCTURE
It is important for students to master the basic skills of English – reading, writing and speaking, which will be used
throughout their pursuit of academic qualifications. By studying this course, students will be better equipped to
undertake scholarly work like reading journals, writing project papers and presenting papers.

On completion of the course, students will be able to:
1. Construct grammatically correct sentences and write organised paragraphs.
2. Read, comprehend and infer meanings in given passages.
3. Plan and write descriptive, comparison and contrast, and process paragraphs and essay outlines.
4. Make effective oral presentations.
9. SYNOPSIS:
This course is designed to equip students with necessary English language skills like grammar, reading, writing and
presentation to enhance their English proficiency for scholarly work. Students are given the opportunity to create
and use what they have learned in their diploma, degree and postgraduate levels.

A grade C or a pass mark of 50% can only be achieved when the student attempts both the coursework
