CITY OF LARKSPUR
HISTORIC RESOURCES INVENTORY LIST
PROPOSED ADDITIONS
The final plan shows the integrated urban forms with the developed environmental conditions. With a dense
urban core and development becoming less dense as it radiates outward, the village follows the urban transect.
Odd intersections in the grid made for great park locations, and the village boasts beautiful manicured greenspace
as well as interaction with the surrounding environment. A major concern while developing the village was
providing a place for existing residents to interact with each other, and public open spaces with prominent civic
buildings allow this fellowship to be cultivated. While the urban form is extremely important in town and village
design, it is the architectural detail that makes loveable and interesting spaces. The urban areas of Jekyll village
are separated into five distinct zones and detailed by a form based code. Each zone has specific building, site, usage,
and aesthetic requirements. By using the code to regulate development, the village can avoid a monotouous look
and allow for a variety of expressed designs that have a cohesive architectural rhythm. These zones range from
the downtown district (the most urban) to the Point Park and Boulevard districts (an urban neighborhood) to
Oceanview neighborhood at the furthest extent of the development (the most suburban). Special districts within
the village include the convention center campus and the hotels. The entire village lies within a five minute walk
from end to end, so residents have access to the beach, shops, restaurants, amenities, and parks within a short
walking distance. One challenge in creating the development is the inclusion of transient beach users. Parking
areas set on the periphery of the development allow for unobstructed beach access and convenient access to the
village town center. These parking areas are screened from the road and village with vegetation, which also acts
as a filtration device to capture and purify polluted rainwater from the parking lot in the event of rain. Senior Project

ALDRICH STREET - ENTRY BOULEVARD (B1)

As a part of the master plan update for the town of
Covington, Georgia, the Charrette team proposed that
the abandoned Wal-Mart site be redeveloped as a mixed
use urban area. The design is sensitive to the fact that
a majority of the site lies in the dried Indian creek
floodplain, and proposes a series of filtration devices
on site as well as an expansion of the streams riparian
buffer.
