At 3:45 p.m.

, vestry members, choir, clergy and bishops of the province enter the church during the organ
prelude: “Largo in G” (G. H. Handel). All stand.

At 4:00 p.m., the celebrating party enters the church. All stand for the Processional Hymn, “The Church’s
One Foundation”.

The Church’s one foundation is Jesus Christ, her Lord;

She is His new creation by water and the word;
From heaven He came and sought her to be His holy bride;
With His own blood He bought her, and for her life He died.

Elect from every nation, yet one o’er all the earth,
Her charter of salvation, one Lord, one faith, one birth,
One holy name she blesses, partakes one holy food,
And to one hope she presses, with every grace endued.

Though with a scornful wonder men see her sore oppressed,

By schisms rent asunder, by heresies distressed,
Yet saints their watch are keeping, their cry goes up, “How long?”
And soon the night of weeping shall be the morn of song.

‘Mid toil and tribulation, and tumult of her war.

She waits the consummation of peace for evermore;
Till with the vision glorious, her longing eyes are blest,
And the great Church victorious shall be the Church at rest.

Yet she on earth hath union with God the Three in One,
And mystic sweet communion with those whose rest is won.
O happy ones and holy! Lord, give us grace that we
Like them, the meek and lowly, on high may dwell with Thee.

Old Testament Lesson

All sit.

Lector The Old Testament lesson is taken from the Book of the prophet Isaiah,
Chapter 61, verses 10-11.

I will greatly rejoice in the Lord,

my whole being shall exult in my God;
for he has clothed me with the garments of salvation,
he has covered me with the robe of righteousness,
as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland,
and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels.
For as the earth brings forth its shoots,
and as a garden causes what is sown in it to spring up,
so the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise
to spring up before all the nations.

Lector This is the word of the Lord.

All Thanks be to God.
Psalm 45:10-17
All remain sitting.

Hear, O daughter, consider and incline your ear;

forget your people and your father’s house,
and the king will desire your beauty.
Since he is your lord, bow to him;
the people of Tyre will seek your favour with gifts,
the richest of the people with all kinds of wealth.
The princess is decked in her chamber with gold-woven robes;
in many-coloured robes she is led to the king;
behind her the virgins, her companions, follow.
With joy and gladness they are led along
as they enter the palace of the king.
In the place of ancestors you, O king, shall have sons;
you will make them princes in all the earth.
I will cause your name to be celebrated in all generations;
therefore the peoples will praise you for ever and ever.

The Epistle
All remain sitting.

Lector The Epistle is taken from the Epistle from Paul to the Galatians, Chapter 4,
verses 4-7.

But when the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son, born of a woman,
born under the law, in order to redeem those who were under the law, so that
we might receive adoption as children. And because you are children, God
has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!” So
you are no longer a slave but a child, and if a child then also an heir, through
God.

Lector This is the Word of the Lord.

People Thanks be to God.
All stand for the Gradual Hymn, “The God Whom Earth, and Sea and Sky”.

The God whom earth and sea and sky adore and laud and magnify,
Whose might they own, whose praise they tell, in Mary’s body deigned to dwell.

The God whose will by moon and sun and all things in due course is done,
Is borne upon a Maiden’s breast, by fullest heavenly grace possessed.

O Mother blest, the chosen shrine wherein the Architect divine,

Whose hand contains the earth and sky, vouchsafed in hidden guise to lie.

Blest in the message Gabriel brought; blest in the work the Spirit wrought;
Most blest, to bring to human birth the long Desired of all the earth.

O Lord, the Virgin-born, to thee eternal praise and glory be,

Whom with the Father we adore and Holy Ghost, for evermore.

The Gospel
All remain standing.

Gospeller The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Saint Luke.
People (sing) Glory to you, O Lord.

Gospeller And Mary said, “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God
my Saviour, for he has looked with favour on the lowliness of his servant.
Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed; for the Mighty One
has done great things for me, and holy is his name. His mercy is for those
who fear him from generation to generation. He has shown strength with his
arm; he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts. He has
brought down the powerful from their thrones, and lifted up the lowly; he has
filled the hungry with good things, and sent the rich away empty. He has
helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy, according to the
promise he made to our ancestors, to Abraham and to his descendants
forever.”

Gospeller This is the Gospel of the Lord.

Make known His might, the deeds His arm has done;
His mercy sure, from age to age the same;
His holy Name — the Lord, the Mighty One.

Tell out, my soul, the greatness of His might!

Powers and dominions lay their glory by.
Proud hearts and stubborn wills are put to flight,
the hungry fed, the humble lifted high.

Tell out, my soul, the glories of His word!

Firm is His promise, and His mercy sure.
Tell out, my soul, the greatness of the Lord
to children's children and for evermore!

All Yours, Lord, is the greatness, the power, the glory, the splendor,
and the majesty; for everything in heaven and on earth is yours.
All things come from you, and of your own do we give you.

The Great Thanksgiving

All remain standing.

Celebrant The Lord be with you.

People And also with you.

Celebrant Lift up your hearts.

People We lift them to the Lord.

Celebrant Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.

People It is right to give him thanks and praise.
Celebrant It is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks
to you, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth.

For the wonderful grace and virtue declared in all your saints, who have been
the chosen vessels of your grace, and the lights of the world in their
generations.

Therefore we praise you, joining our voices with Angels and Archangels and
with all the company of heaven, who for ever sing this hymn to proclaim the
glory of your Name:

All (sing)Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of pow’r and God of might;
Heaven and earth are full of your glory, are full of your glory.
Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest;
Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest,
Hosanna, hosanna in the highest.
Blessed, blessed, blessed is he, he who comes in the name of the Lord.
Blessed is he who comes in the name,
who comes in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest;
Hosanna, hosanna, hosanna in the highest,
Hosanna, hosanna in the highest.

Celebrant We give thanks to you, O God, for the goodness and love which you have
made known to us in creation; in the calling of Israel to be your people; in your
Word spoken through the prophets; and above all in the Word made flesh,
Jesus, your Son.

For in these last days you sent him to be incarnate from the Virgin Mary, to be
the Saviour and Redeemer of the world. In him, you have delivered us from
evil, and made us worthy to stand before you. In him, you have brought us out
of error into truth, out of sin into righteousness, out of death into life.

On the night before he died for us, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when
he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said,
“Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the
remembrance of me.”

After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it
to them, and said, “Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new
Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins.
Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me.”

Therefore, according to his command, O Father,

All We remember his death.
We proclaim his resurrection.
We await his coming in glory.

Celebrant And we offer our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving to you, O Lord of all;
presenting to you, from your creation, this bread and this wine.

We pray you, gracious God, to send your Holy Spirit upon these gifts that they
may be the Sacrament of the Body of Christ and his Blood of the new
Covenant. Unite us to your Son in his sacrifice, that we may be acceptable
through him, being sanctified by the Holy Spirit. In the fullness of time, put all
things in subjection under your Christ, and bring us to that heavenly country,
where with the Blessed Virgin Mary and all your saints, we may enter the
everlasting heritage of your sons and daughters; through Jesus Christ our Lord,
the firstborn of all creation, the head of the Church, and the author of our
salvation.

By him, and with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit all honour and
glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and for ever.

People Amen.

The Communion
All kneel.

Celebrant As our Saviour Christ has taught us, we now pray:

All (sing)Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name:

Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread; (hallowed be thy name)
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation; (hallowed be thy name)
But deliver us from evil, deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, the pow’r, and the glory; (hallowed be thy name)
For ever and ever, for ever. Amen.
For ever and ever. Amen.
Celebrant We break this bread to share in the body of Christ.
People Though we are many, we are one body, because we all share in one
bread.

All (sing together “Agnus Dei”)

Jesus, Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world,
Have mercy on us.
Jesus, Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world,
Have mercy on us;
Jesus, Lamb of God, you take away the sins of the world,
Grant us peace.

Celebrant The Gifts of God for the People of God. Take them in remembrance that
Christ died for you, and feed on him in your hearts by faith, with
thanksgiving.

Prayer after Communion

All kneel.

Celebrant Let us pray.

All Eternal God, heavenly Father, you have graciously accepted us

as living members of your Son our Saviour Jesus Christ,
and you have fed us with spiritual food
in the Sacrament of his Body and Blood.
Send us now into the world in peace,
and grant us strength and courage to love and serve you
with gladness and singleness of heart;
through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Notices
All sit.

All stand for the hymn “God of Grace and God of Glory”.

God of grace and God of glory, on Thy people pour Thy power;
Crown Thine ancient church's story; bring her bud to glorious flower.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, for the facing of this hour,
for the facing of this hour.
Lo! the hosts of evil round us scorn Thy Christ, assail His ways!
From the fears that long have bound us, free our hearts to faith and praise.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, for the living of these days,
for the living of these days.

Cure Thy children's warring madness; bend our pride to Thy control;
Shame our wanton, selfish gladness, rich in things and poor in soul.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, lest we miss Thy kingdom's goal,
lest we miss Thy kingdom's goal.

Set our feet on lofty places; Gird our lives that they may be
Armoured with all Christ-like graces in the fight to set men free.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, That we fail not man nor Thee,
That we fail not man nor Thee.

Save us from weak resignation to the evils we deplore;

Let the search for Thy salvation be our glory evermore.
Grant us wisdom, grant us courage, serving Thee whom we adore,
serving Thee whom we adore. Amen.
