A Short Bio-graphy of Late.Rao Sahib T.T.R.

Pillai

Rao Sahib T.T.Rathnasabapathy Pillai was born on 5th April 1897.

Affectionately known to his admires and friends as TTR he made his mark in
the legal profession by sheer dint of his industry and intellect. For almost 3
decades he rode the Courts of Coimbatore as a colossus! An exceptionally
talented lawyer, his tongue coated with silver made musical sounds of effective
and convincing arguments before the British Judges as they nodded their
heads at his wonderful mastery over the English language. The public life of
Coimbatore was made gay cheerful by his presence. He was involved in every
public organisation of Coimbatore and always gave his wise counsel and
guidance to every one who approached him. He was a man of unsuilled
character and stainless integrity, his capacity for love and devotion as a friend
was unequalled. With a transparent sincerity, he delighted in obliging a friend
and offering a helping hand to any one in distress. From 1937 to 1949, almost
for 12 years he was Public Prosecutor of Coimbatore and Nilgiris District. The
then British India Government for the services he had rendered chose to
honour him by the title “Rao Sahib”. At the break of IInd World War he helped
the British India Government in its War efforts by serving in the war
Committee to collect funds.

In the field of finance he was an unquestioned wizard, with a degree of

intuition that is rate in the extreme he had a capacity to assess with the
uncanny accuracy the impact of economic and political factors that affect the
rise and fall of the financial markets. He invested in stock markets and made
huge fortunes. He was in vited by almost all the giant joint stock Companies in
South India to be in their Board. The Madras Share Holders Association
described him at the condolence meeting to mourn his death as “ The name
TTR Pillai is not only a household name in Coimbatore but to many investors in
companies who always read with interest the very many useful and instructive
articles contributed by him to newspapers and periodicals. As a Citizen of
India, he often expressed his views with courage and never failed to convey
these even to the highest quarters”. He was a bundle of multifarious talents,
developed and polished by unstinted industry and unremitting preserverance.
He was as much as a student of literature as he was of finance. His command
of the English language was copious and powerful. His capacity to sway his
listeners and his ability to bring them into his line of thought was surprising
and astonishing to those who watched! He highlighted and magnified his
talents in the eyes of the world by a powerful eloquence that is characteristic of
him.

In short he was a great man with wonderful capabilities and kind

thoughts!
