Established in 1982
The end of the year is upon us. I personally enjoy the cooler temps and I love snow. You can call me
crazy but I would never want to live anywhere else than right here. I enjoy the four seasons more and more as I
get older. Sure winter is cold, but it really makes spring feel so good.
Last month our guest speaker was Jeff Halverson (Conservation Officer). As always he put on a
wonderful seminar/open forum. He kept us in stitches all night. Jeff informed us that this was going to be his
last speaking engagement because he is retiring very soon. We would like to wish him all good fortunes
through his relaxing period. You have deserved it and will be missed by all (well maybe not all). Jeff has
represented the Department of Natural Resources as well or better than anyone I know, and we are better off for
having him look out for the things we love.
December is when we hold elections and I am happy to say that a number of people have stepped up and
accepted nominations for a number of positions. The one job that no one has been nominated for is the
newsletter editor. I hope that someone would be able to take on this position. If you are interested please
contact me at 320-290-7101. Thanks again for all the people that want to be involved.
One last noteTackle Industries has New Member discounts. Please check this out on their website.
Whether you are hunting or fishing this month please be safe and respectful of others and may all your personal
bests come true!

POLITICAL RESEARCH DIRECTOR REPORT . . . . . . By Aaron Meyer
They're at it again! The people who want to keep us off of "their" lakes have pushed another step in that
direction.
The folks that have been attacking the muskie program in Ottertail County just won't give up. The Ottertail
County Board of Commissioners has passed a resolution telling the DNR to stop stocking muskies in all
Ottertail County lakes for at least five years. This would affect Pelican Lake, West Battle Lake, and Beers Lake.
There is also serious concern that if this goes any further, Big Detroit Lake in Becker County as well
as Miltona and Lobster Lakes in Douglas County could also be attacked.
State law supersedes county ordinance, so the DNR plans to continue with their planned stocking programs.
However, each step where the muskie haters gain traction brings us one step closer to Legislation that could
force the DNR to comply. In fact, Senator Ingebrigtsen, who is a constant problem, has already stated he plans
to do something to stop the muskie programs. Senator Ingebrigtsen's district covers Pelican and West Battle
Lakes, and much of Ottertail County.
I don't have much more info than that, or a specific plan to deal with this yet. However, if you know anyone
who lives in Ottertail County, or have any connection to businesses in the area that benefit from muskie angling,
please alert them. Businesses such as resorts, hotels, motels, and bait shops could lose significant business if
this moves forward. Tell them to contact their City Councils, County Commissioners, and Legislators. We need
them to know how important muskies are to local residents and businesses!
