Introduction
The Location of Satui is in South Kalimantan Province.
Satui can be reached for 3 hours from Banjarmasin by land transportation.
Satui is owned by PT. Arutmin Indonesia. Arutmin was majority owned by BHP in 2000
before it was taken over by PT. Bumi Resources Tbk.
PT. Arutmin Indonesia and PT. Thiess Indonesia made alliance, the contract was
concluded in May 2000 and commenced on 12 June 2000. The reason of Alliance is
Arutmin wanted sharing risk with Thiess Indonesia to operate their mine.
The scope of work Thiess Indonesia in Arutmin is Mining services, delivery coal to the
port and barging the coal.
The payment contract between Arutmin and Thiess is on a per barged tonnes basis.
Right now Thiess Indonesia still negotiate to the Arutmin for contract extension.
Life of Mine (LOM) is needed for calculating the reserve and total cost for mining
operation.
In the contract between Thiess and Arutmin. Pit shell is supplied by Arutmin, then
Thiess will design pit excavation and dump. Loss and dilution criteria is created by
Thiess after Arutmin Agreed.

Water is the most problem for mining activity in Mulia, because there are 3 big
stream through the pit. For anticipation Mine Planning of Thiess designed 3 river
diversion to divert stream going into the pit. (see the pictures).

Currently mining activity in Mulia pit 8 doesnt need blasting because overburden
material is soft. But for the future mining activity in Mulia will need blasting because
the pit going deeper than now.
The type of overburden material in the Mulia is sandy clay.
The out pit dump design close with the pit. The reason is for minimizing haulage
cycle times and the usage of dump truck is lesser compare far haul distances.
Because the area for dumping is narrow, the material is maximized to dump into the
pit its mean Thiess will maximize in pit dump than out pit dump .
The impacts of maximize in pit dump and construct out pit dump close the pit are
1. The cost of production can be reduced
2. The environment after mine closer is better because the usage of area is lesser
3. The community impact can be avoided because the village close with the mine
have not removed.
After mining activity finish, Thiess have responsibility to rehabilitate the mine area,
include in pit and out pit dump. The area must be rehabilitated approximately 260
hectare.
