PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Quality Improvement Projects (many run concurrently)
2015 Member of the project committee to implement the ACI initiative: Care
of the Confused Hospitalised Older Person (CHOPs). Roles include planning a
meeting to secure hospital executive sponsorship, screening a dementia
education film resource, conducting education sessions on the use of
screening tools and education on dementia and how staff can improve the
way they can care for people with dementia and delirium.

2015 Principle Researcher at Fairfield Hospital ED as part of the Emergency


Care Institute project: The impact of the Emergency Physiotherapy Practitioner
on Emergency Department care for patients with Musculoskeletal Injuries

2015 The Effect of ASET assessment on Length of Stay and Representation Rates of patients 70 years and older who present with a fall to
the emergency department: A retrospective analysis - to be presented at
the SSWLHD Aged Care and Rehabilitation Conference at Liverpool Hospital
in December 2015. Data will be presented in chart and table format to
assist the understanding of audience members.
2013 Producing a delirium guide for ward physiotherapists and a trial of
rehab" guideline for physiotherapy staff working on the subacute

rehabilitation ward.
2011 Formulation, implementation and evaluation of an ASET assessment
form to make the ASET service more efficient. This project involved
surveying allied health staff on the ability of the form to save assessment
time when assessing elderly patients. This project was presented at the
Aged Care Forum at Concord Hospital in 2011
2010-2015 and an initiative to improve the care of the upper limb in stroke
patients.
Leadership
Acting Physiotherapy Head of Department in January 2016 with roles such as
managing the orientation of new staff, payroll, organisation of department
timetables, submitting briefs for HETI education grants as well as liasing with
senior members of departments among the hospital facility.

Currently leading the Physiotherapy Department student educators group,


chairing meetings, create a resource folder and inservice feedback in order to
support our senior staff as well as make running of student placements at
Fairfield more efficient. I also represent the department at district level educator
meetings.
Experience in coordinating workloads and priorities across multiple inpatient
ward areas, delegating staff to assist others where needed. I have also lead case
study review sessions and conducted ward team meetings to ensure that issues
occurring in any areas can be addressed and resolved as a team.
Inservices and community talks
I have had experience in delivering community talks about the benefits of
exercise in cardiac conditions, and also inservices to staff ranging from case
reviews to specific MSK or neurological conditions such as BPPV.

Student Education

Experience in supervising 3rd and 4th year undergraduate and also graduate
entry masters students from Usyd, ACU and WSU in the area of the
emergency department. I have also attended courses run by universities in
the area of student education.
Staff Supervision
Experience in providing supervision to junior physiotherapy staff in subacute
rehab running clinical supervision sessions, orientation, goal setting and
competencies checklists

Fairfield Hospital
Level 3 Physiotherapist Emergency Department / MAU / ASET - Nov 2010
Present
As part of the ASET team, performing comprehensive geriatric assessment of patients 70
years and older who present to the emergency department and liaising with the ASET CNC,
the medical team and referring the allied health team (as needed) to coordinate safe and
timely patient management. Experience includes delirium screening; neurological,
mobility, falls, balance and respiratory assessment; prescription of aids; exercises; and
education regarding safe mobility for discharge. A big part of the role is organising follow
up community services to maintain patients independence at home to reduce admission.
A highlight of this role is directly contributing to the running of the inpatient team and
supporting professional development. A HETI Workplace Learning Grant application that I
wrote and submitted (regarding an Xray interpretation) was successful in obtaining a
$5000 grant in April this year.

Liverpool Hospital
Level 2 Physiotherapist Cardiac Rehab, medical ward and ICU May 2010 Nov
2010
Role includes functional assessment of patients post cardiac surgery, heart failure and
those with cardiac conditions with a view towards exercise prescription. Experience in goal
setting, 6mWT, ECG interpretation, running group exericise classes using the RPE scale,
and running education session about heart health and the benefits of exericse. Prescribing
home exercise programs is part of the role.

Musculoskeletal Outpatients
Participated in a quality improvement project comparing the efficacy of an exercise group,
home
based exercise and 1-to-1 physiotherapy to maximise functional outcome following total
knee
replacement. Participated in weekly journal article reviews and inservices to reflect current
practice guidelines. Participated in the department triage system of assessing patients to
streamline waiting lists and treatments.
General Ward Cover
Consolidated skills for providing treatment for patients in a variety of settings: High
Dependancy Unit, Geriatric Rehabilitation, Orthopaedics including cases such as breast
surgery, CVA, laparotomy,
pneumonia and chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases, aggressive patients and
dementia.
Assisted in the running of an exercise class in the rehabilitation gym for elderly patients

with the focus on increasing functional mobility and decreasing the risk of falls.
Facilitated discharge planning for patients, in liason with medical and allied health staff.
