OIL AND GAS FIELDS OF SINDH MONOCLINE
The OGDC has a 100 percent interest in the Tando Alam

Oil Field, which is located in the Hyderabad District of
Sindh province.
It is approximately 150 kilometers north-east of Karachi
in the Lower Indus Basin.
The Thora oil field is located at distance of 15 km from

Hyderabad, Sindh.
The field was discovered in August, 1987.
Subsequently the field was developed and delineated
through the drilling of a total of five wells during the
period August, 1987 to January, 1989.
Later 02 Deep wells were also drilled in Thora Field from
2006-2008.
The field occurs within the Lower Indus sub-basin lying
on the southern Sindh platform.
Sono Oil field is operated by OGDC and it is located at a

distance of 25 Km in the north east of Hyderabad city
and about 4 Km away from Tando Alam Oil complex.
First exploratory well was drilled and completed in Feb.
1988.
A total of 05 wells were drilled up to 1990.
Sono well # 1 was brought on regular production in May
1988.
Later 03 wells were further added after reviewing the
structure.
Presently all the producing wells are on artificial lift.
OGDCL has a 100 percent working interest in the

Pasakhi Oil Field which is located at a distance of 19 km
in the east of Hyderabad city.
The Pasakhi-oil field was discovered in 1989.
The first exploratory well i.e. Pasakhi well No. 1 was
drilled and completed in Aug. 1989.
The well was brought on regular production on Oct. 4,

1989.
The field is located at a distance of 13.5 km in the south

east of Tando Allah Yar city.
The field was discovered in June 1998 and was brought
on regular production in Aug, 1998.
Lashari Oil Field is located at a distance of 25 Km in the
east of Hyderabad city.
The well Lashari Center # 1 was drilled in April 1988
and was brought on production in November 1988.
Bobi gas/condensate field is located at 25 kilometers in

south of District Sanghar and 85 km north-east of
Hyderabad city in Sindh province.
Bobi well # 1 was the first exploratory well drilled and
completed as gas / condensate producer in May 1988.
Total of 12 wells have been drilled till now.
Bobi Gas Condensate Field is a part of Second Oil and
Gas Development Project funded by Asian Development
Bank amounting to US $ 52.00 million out of which US $
20.1 million was allocated for the development of Bobi
field.
Condensate fractionating facilities along with gasrecycling system was installed and field was declared as
Oil Complex in 2002.
It is located in Tando Muhammad Khan District of Sindh

province at a distance of 53 km from Tando Alam Oil
Complex.
First exploratory well was drilled in December 1988 and
was tested as gas/condensate producer.
The field was put on regular production in October 1999.
Presently all wells of Daru Gas field are shut in.
Kunnar gas/condensate field is located in the Hyderabad

District at a distance of about 26 Kilometers from
Hyderabad city.
First exploratory well i.e. Kunnar well No. 1 was drilled

and completed in Nov, 1987.
OGDCL has a 100 percent working interest in the Kunnar
Gas/ Condensate Field.
The field was placed on regular production in December
1991.
Production from Kunnar Deep Wells (Phase-I) has been
started from February 11, 2012.
Nur Gas Field is located about 05 km from Bagla Gas
Field.
Drilling of Nur # 01 was completed in June 1991 by
OGDCL.
Gas / Condensate were discovered in Lower Goru
Formation.
After installing well head surface facilities and amine
plant, commercial production has been started in Jan
23, 2013.
The Norai Jagir property is part of the Nim Exploration
Licence and is a joint venture of OGDCL and
Government Holding Private Limited.
OGDCL has a 95 percent working interest in the Nim E.L.
Nim E.L. is located in the Tando Muhammad Khan
district of the Sindh province.
Norai Jagir #01 was drilled by OGDCL in 2002 as an
exploratory well.
Norai Jagir is being produced at Daru Central facility.
Bagla is located at a distance of about 150 km in the

east of Karachi in Thatta Exploration block of Sindh
Province and about 45 km from Badin.
The Field can be approached through Badin Sajawal
metallic road. Phillips Petroleum Exploration Limited
discovered Bagla # 01 in December 1998 however well
had to be plugged & abandoned due to gas oozing at
surface. Later OGDCL drilled/completed Bagla# 02 as
gas condensate producer.
GAS FIELDS OF OUTSIDE OF SINDH MONOCLINE
Mari Gas Field is located at Daharki, District Ghotki,

Sindh.
The field is approximately 96 kilometers North of

Sukkur.
Stanvoc Oil Company (SVOC) discovered Mari gasfield in

1957. This company later became Esso Co. Presently
Mari gas field is owned and operated by Mari Gas Co.
Ltd. (MGCL).
It was drilled to the depth of 3386 meters (11110 feet).

The gas was encountered at the depth of 701 meters
(2300 feet) in Lower Kirthar ZN-B Limestone formation,
commonly known as Habib Rahi Limestone.
The field was brought on production in 1967.
Situated on the right bank of Indus River.
Kandhkot Gas Fields reserves are concentrated in

the Habib Rahi
Limestone, Sui Main
and
Upper
Limestone reservoirs.
Though Kandhkot Gas Field was discovered shortly
after Sui Gas Field, production did not begin until 1983
due to low gas demand.

Miano Gas Field is situated in Sindh.

Raw gas from the field is processed at Kadanwari Gas
Plant before its supply to SSGCL.
The condensate is sold to National Refinery Limited.
A total of 19 wells have been drilled in the field, out of
which eight wells are currently on production.
Located in Sindh.
Sawan Gas Field hosts 15 wells, out of which 14 are in
production and supply gas to SSGCL and SNGPL.

A 450 MMscfd sales gas processing facility is installed
at Sawan Plant.

Government of Pakistan assigned 75 percent working
interest and operatorship of Chachar Gas Field (CGF) to
Pakistan
Petroleum
Limited
in
early
2009,
while
Government Holdings (Private) Limited continued to
hold the remaining 25 percent working interest.

Spanning over an area of approximately 34 square
kilometers, Chachar is an extension of the north-eastern
dome of Kandhkot Gas Field.

To date, a total of four wells have been drilled at CGF, of
which Chachar 1 and 2 are presently in production,
while Chachar 3 and 4 have been abandoned due to
water load-up.
The gas from CGF is recovered from Kandhkot Gas Field
through Kandhkot-Chachar pipeline
and
sold
as
commingled gas to SNGPL.

discovered in March 1990 and ranks as the second
largest gas field in Pakistan after Sui, with original
recoverable reserves of about 4 Tcf.
The field is located 8 kms from Ghotki, 70 kms to the
north east of Sukkur and 100 kms to the east of
Jacobabad in Sindh province.
The field was developed in three phases, increasing its
capacity from the initial 235 MMscfd to 500 MMscfd. In
2008, the capacity was further enhanced to
600 MMscfd.
Purified gas from the field is supplied to SNGPL while
raw gas and condensate is sold to Liberty Power and
Pakistan Refinery Limited respectively.
Of the 65 wells that have been drilled at this field,
53 are currently producing wells. Five have been
abandoned, five are shut-in and two are water disposal
wells.
Besides, permeate gas is supplied to Engro Power
Limited since March 2010.
The fields main customers are Sui Northern Gas

Pipeline Company Limited, Engro Powergen Limited and
Liberty Power Limited.

The Kadanwari gas field was discovered by LASMO Oil

Paksitan Limited (now Eni) in 1989.
It is located in Khairpur district about 75 km away from
sukkur.
The reservoir (Lower Goru Sand) is located at 3300
meters sub-sea and is the deepest gas reservoir of
Paksitan.
The main producing interval in the Kadanwari gas field
is a sand unit of E sand, 5-10 meters thick in the
Lower Cretaceous Lower Goru Formation. Average
porosities are 20% and permeabilities around 100 md.
The kadanwari field is a combination of structural and
stratigraphic trap.
Located in District Kamber-Shahdadkot in Sindh.
Mazarani Gas Field (MGF) was discovered in 1959 but
lay dormant for almost 30 years owing to low gas
demand.
The field is a joint venture between Pakistan Petroleum
Limited and Government Holdings (Private) Limited.
During 2002 2003, the field was developed and a Gas
Processing Facility was installed for supply of gas
to SSGCL network located near Miro Khan through a 75km gas transmission pipeline specifically laid by the
Company for this project.
Commercial production from the field began in June

2003.
A total of 4 wells have so far been drilled in MGF, of
which three are producing presently.

The Hundi field was discovered in 1970 by Hundi #01

well which was shut-in in during 1988 after having
produced 147 MMcf of natural gas from the Ranikot G
zone and 9,678 MMcf from the Ranikot E zone.
Three more wells were drilled from 1971 and 1975.
Hundi #02 has been abandoned, Hundi #03 is
producing from the Ranikot A zone and Hundi #04 is
completed in the Ranikot C zone.
The Sari Field is located 64 kilometres east of Karachi

and covers approximately 60 square kilometres.
It was discovered in 1965 with the drilling of well Sari
#01, which tested gas from the Upper Ranikot A and B
zones.
A total of five wells have been drilled in the area
wherein currently Sari #3 is producing from lower
Ranikot.
The bhit gas field is located 150 km NNE of Karachi, 60

km SW of Dadu and 40 km SW of Sehwan.
The field was discovered in the eastern foothills of
Khirthar fold belt. The terrain is dominantly hilly with
prominent N-S trending limestone ridges. Elevation of

the area ranges from 50 to 900 meters above sea level.
LASMO Oil Pakistan Limited discovered the field in 1997
and was the first gas discovery in the virtually
unexplored Khirthar fold belt.
The Bhit structure is broadly N-S trending doubly
plunging anticline. The structure is defined at the
surface by a prominent outcrop of Khirthar limestone.
The Bhit field is approximately 22 km long and 6 km
wide.
The reservoir rock in Bhit is the late Cretaceous Pab
sandstone which occurs at a depth of 950 meters below
mean sea level.
The reservoir interval is about 200 meters thick with
core porosities 20% and 3000 md permeability.
The estimated reserves are 1.119 trillion cubic feet.
The Zamzama gas field was discovered by BHP in May

1998, with estimated reserves of 2.206 trillion cubic
feet.
The reservoir rock is late Cretaceous Pab sandstone.
The gas in Bhit and Zamzama has approximately 20%
N2 .
