2. Cross country state qualifier. For this accomplishment, I was able to prove my
diversity as an athlete by showing my teammates, coaches, and friends that I
am not just a sprinter, but that I have the endurance to run long distance all
while being successful at it also. I was able to show drastic improvements from
my rookie season and accomplish a goal that I never aspired achieving.
3. 2014 Outstanding Poultry Showman. Over the past 12 years I have been
involved in 4-H, I also aspire to be better in a certain craft or activity than I was
the previous year. In 2014, I put in extra amounts of time into my poultry,
perfectly reciting my speech and researching any extra information I may need
to know when performing showmanship with the judge. I also spent many
weeks leading up to the fair working with my birds and ensuring that they be as
ready as they possible can before fair begins. All this hard work and dedication
resulted in a goal I have always dreamed of attaining since I began showing
poultry: receiving the outstanding poultry showmanship award out of all the
poultry contestants.
LIST SOME WAYS IN WHICH YOU HAVE ASSUMED A LEADERSHIP ROLE
DURING YOUR HIGH SCHOOL CAREER:
This past year, I have been given the opportunity of being a cross country
co-captain for the 2016-2017 team. By receiving this role, I have been delegated
the task of helping the younger runners with anything they may not know about
and helping organize certain events, such as the annual fun run. I am also one of
the stretching leaders and ensure that everyone is on the same page during a
meet day. Another leadership role I was given is that I was accepted into Youth
Leadership Tomorrow (YLT) Class 19. This program brings together all the
Juniors in Hall County and guide them with building their leadership skills
throughout the course of one year. Through this experience, I gained skills that
will benefit my throughout life as well as gaining friendships that I will never
forget.
WHAT ARE YOUR ACADEMIC AND/OR CAREER GOALS AFTER HIGH SCHOOL?
(IF YOU HAVE SEVERAL AREAS OF INTEREST, LIST EACH ONE AND EXPLAIN.)
After high school, I plan on attending college for four years to become a middle
or elementary school teacher. If I become a middle school teacher, I want to
have an emphasis in math. As well as teaching, I want to attain my coaching
endorsement and become a varsity track or cross country coach. I also want to
continue my track and field career in college and eventually make it to nationals
and place in an individual event while competing there.
DESCRIBE ONE OF YOUR WEAKNESSES. HOW HAVE YOU TRIED TO
OVERCOME IT?
One of my weaknesses is that I am a perfectionist. Although this could benefit
me in some aspects of life, it also hinders me in other areas. For example, in
basketball, I focus more on being a technical player instead of going out and
performing to the best of my ability and just playing the game I love. Also, in my
academics I tend to be obsessive in completing more than what the teacher
asks for, again this is acceptable, but I soon begin to put more of my focus into
school rather than enjoying high school and life. Throughout high school, I
learned that these times dont last forever, because of this, I have begun to truly
enjoy participating in certain activities rather than focusing on being right or
pleasing everyone around me. I have learned that life is not about getting
everything right, but enjoying the journey with those around you.
