    In 1986 planning permission was sought by Newbury Sand and Gravel Company Ltd. for the extraction of sand and gravel from an area of 47.2 hectares to the south-west and south-east of Lower Farm which included the site of a ring-ditch and other cropmarks. An evaluation and subsequently a full excavation of the ring-ditch was commissioned and the results are reported on here.
