own sexuality. Big arses, tiny bikinis and a very invasive type of
waxing are just a few ways of how Brazilian women are wrongly
depicted around the world.
Ive never considered myself as a feminist to be honest. Not
because I didnt agree with the feminist claims, of course I did, but
because I felt feminism was only reaching those who were already
persuaded of its importance.
But recently something made me see this issue differently. Women
and girls in Brazil took to social media to share their experiences of
the first time they were sexually harassed or assaulted after a 12year-old contestant of Brazils Junior MasterChef became the subject
of sexually explicit tweets. The #MeuPrimeiroAssedio hashtag
which translates as my first harassment was used more than
82,000 times on Twitter over five days.
Although I was sad to confront the reality I already new existed, I felt
renovated to see how powerful this movement could be. Finally
these stories were being brought to surface and discussed between
women and men, seen as a serious issue, not only as an everyday
natural aspect of our lives.
This movement was an inspiration to me. Knowing this is a universal
matter, Ive decided to approach it in this film.
The decision to make it trough these characters lives is both a
creative and affectional one. These women are people who I admire
and relate to in some level. More than just another woman victim of
harassment, they all are charming and clever protagonists, with
enriching life stories and special strategies to deal with the sexist
reality they face everyday.
