ABOUT JAM
The Indian Institute of Science Bangalore (IISc) and Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) conduct
the Joint Admission Test for M.Sc. (JAM) for admission to Integrated Ph.D. Degree Programmes
at IISc and M.Sc. (Two Years), Joint M.Sc.-Ph.D., M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree, M.Sc.-M.Tech.,
M.Sc.-M.S.(Research)/ Ph.D. Dual Degree and other Post-Bachelor Degree Programmes at
various IITs. The main objective of JAM is to consolidate Science as a career option for bright
students across the country. It is expected that the research infrastructure, the inter-disciplinary
interaction and the vibrant academic environment of IISc Bangalore and IITs will motivate these
students to pursue R&D careers in frontier areas of basic sciences as well as inter-disciplinary
areas of science and technology. JAM 2016 is open to all nationals. But, foreign nationals will be
required to satisfy the rules and regulations of the admitting Institute(s) pertaining to foreign
students for admission. The JAM score may also be used by other institutions for admission to
their programmes. For JAM 2016, IIT Madras is the Organizing Institute.

All the seven Test Papers of JAM 2016 will be of fully objective type, with three different patterns
of questions, namely (i) multiple choice questions (MCQ), (ii) multiple select questions (MSQ), and
(iii) numerical answer type (NAT) questions.

For candidates with letter grades/CGPA (instead of percentage of marks) the equivalence in
percentage of marks will be decided by the admitting institute(s)
NOTE: Proof of having passed the qualifying degree with the required eligibility, as specified
by the admitting institute, should be submitted by September 30, 2016. Reservation policy is
as per the Government of India norms.

ADMISSION PROCEDURE
Admission to various academic programmes at IISc and IITs for the session 2016-2017 shall be
made on the basis of an all India merit list of JAM 2016. Candidates who qualify in any test
paper of JAM 2016 shall be eligible to apply for admission to all the academic programmes
corresponding to that test paper, provided they also satisfy the minimum educational
qualifications and the eligibility requirements as specified by the Institute(s) in which the
admission is sought. Admission shall be given in the order of merit depending on the number of
seats available at the admitting institute(s). After the declaration of JAM 2016 results, qualified
candidates should apply on the prescribed admission form to the Organizing Institute (IIT
Madras) specifying their preferences for the programmes for which the admission is sought.
