 Enter your network username@wf.uct.ac.za (i.e. staff/
student number) and password.
 Leave the Logon domain: option blank.
 Click OK.

To set up the UCT wireless network on your Windows XP laptop, follow


these steps.
1. Select Start | Connect to | Show all connections.

Select Start | Settings | Network Connections.
2. The Network Connections window opens.
 Right click Wireless Network Connection.
q Select Properties.
3. The Wireless Network Connection Properties dialog box appears.
 Click the Wireless Networks tab.
q Select Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings.
q Click Add.

q Click OK.
 The Protected EAP Properties dialog box reappears.
q Click OK.
 The Wireless network properties dialog box reappears.
q Click OK.
 The Wireless Network Connection Properties dialog box reappears.
q Click OK.

5. Close the Network Connections window.


D: Connect to the UCT wireless network from your Windows XP
laptop
Windows XP will attempt to connect to the UCT wireless network for the
first time. You will see a balloon pop-up, like the one shown below, in
your system tray.

If you do not see the Wireless Networks tab, you need to enable the

For this process to work correctly, the date and time of your machine must be accurate for the certificate to be verified.

1. Select Apple menu | System Preferences.


2. The System Preferences dialog box opens.

Select AirPort.
Ensure that the Status: is On.

Enter a name for the configuration in the Description field.
Ensure that Network Port is set to AirPort.
Enter your network username@wf.uct.ac.za & password in the relevant fields.
Select eduroam from the Wireless Network drop-down menu.
Select PEAP under Authentication.
Deselect all the other protocols.
Click OK.
5. In the 802.1X dialog box,
Click Connect.
6. The Verify Certificate dialog box appears.
Click Show Certificate.
Verify that:
the certificate name is uc-acs-uct.ac.za or mc-acs.uct.ac.za.
the certificate has been issued with thawte Primary Root CA.
Click the Trust Settings arrow

Select Always trust.
Click Continue.
7. The Confirm Access to Keychain dialog box appears.
Click on Always Allow.
You should still have the Network dialog box open.
Click on Apply Now.
8. You have successfully set up the UCT wireless network and you are now connected
to the eduroam wireless network.
The 802.1X settings are set up in a separate application called Internet Connect.
This will load when clicking on the Connect / Disconnect button under the AirPort.

from your Apple iPad and iPhone

To set up the connection, follow these steps:

Check that your Wi-Fi is turned on. If not, tap to turn Wi-Fi On.
Eduroam should pop up in the list of found networks. Tap on it.
Enter staff/third party/student ID followed by @wf.uct.ac.za
Enter your network password. Tap Join.
Tap Accept to finish joining the network and to verify your network credentials.
