The passage discusses the history of Vespa scooters in Germany, including their introduction, main manufacturers (Hoffman, Messerschmitt, Vespa GmbH), and improvements over time.

In early 1949, Piaggio signed a license agreement with the Hoffman works in Germany, giving them exclusive rights to manufacture Vespa scooters. The first German-made Vespa scooters came off the production line in March 1950.

The main manufacturers of Vespa scooters in Germany were the Hoffman works from 1950-1954, Vespa Messerschmitt GmbH from 1955-1957, and Vespa GmbH from 1958 onwards.

When the first Vespa scooters purred on German roads, you already went ahead a great reputation. So the Vespa has seen remarkable
achievements in Germany. In early September 1949, signed a license agreement between Piaggio and the Hoffman works. This ensured the
Hofmann works in Lintorf to the exclusive rights to manufacture the Vespa in Germany. In March 1950, the Hofmann works could deliver the
first Vespa scooter from German production. To 1951, the Hofmann works had become a concept in the German Zweiratindustrie. It
produced annually 12,000 Vespa scooters. Until the collapse of Hoffmann works approximately 41,000 Vespa scooters were produced in
Germany and 38100 certified.
Even if the collapse of the Hofmann-works is not due to a lack of success of the Vespa, this brought a serious setback for the Vespa scooter
in Germany with themselves. The customers were disappointed because the Dealership hung in the air and jumped off merchants.
On January 18, 1955, the Vespa Messerschmitt GmbH was established that the manufacture and exclusive distribution of the Vespa scooter in
Germany took over through a license agreement with Piaggio. but the beginning Messerschmitt was able to supply only Vespa scooters, which
consisted of the Italian original parts. Few parts were from German suppliers.
... Another text for Vespa Messerschmitt follow ...
On 30 December 1957, the bond with the Messerschmitt AG was finally solved. and all agreements expired. Despite these operations, the
production ran in Augsburg continued smoothly. The registration of the Vespa GmbH was entered in the commercial register on 6 Feburary
1958th
As early as 1958 reached Vespa in Germany a market share of 30 percent. The vehicle family consisting of the acquired Messerschmitt basic
models 150 tours export was supplemented by a Vespa 125 during the year. After a three year break was in 1958 for the first time a Vespa in

this displacement class on the German market. Compared to the original Vespa Hoffmann, there were major improvements. For the first
time the body of the scooter was manufactured in shell construction, which disappeared some body seams. The weight could be reduced
from 86 kg to 81 kg. The leg shield had become narrower, the engine cowling and mailboxes slimmer. The door under the front seat had
fallen. Outwardly they hardly differed from the Vespa GS. The buyers and the automotive press reacted very positively to the Vespa 125. By
contrast, the proven and mature model had 150 T / 3 to suffer from difficulties in selling and lost customers to the weaker V espa 125 and
the Vespa GS.
In year 1959, the Vespa remained 125 unchanged. A springtime sensation presented the new Vespa 150 T / 4. Since they had taken over the
body in shell construction of the new Vespa 125, the two models differed externally hardly. But the Vespa 150 T / 4 has been compared to
the Vespa 150 completely redesigned T / 3 system. The main changes are:

Reduced oil mixture in a mixing ratio of oil to fuel from 1:50 sick before 1:25.
Larger wheels - 10 inches instead of 8 inches.
Weight reduction by 16 kg (fully fueled).
New brakes that do not have improved braking performance for but not squeaky.
Unit swing from one source, instead of separate components for swingarm and engine block.
New carburetor filter prechamber unit directly on the motor instead of the carburetor in the rear bumper.
Cowling right with rotary catch.
Stop light switch on the foot brake the rear brake.
New arrangement of the fittings combination switch for horn, short-circuit button, parking lights, main and dipped beam on the right
side of the handlebar.
No ignition key.

Public and the experts were in agreement about the fact that Vespa had created with the new model a great scooter. In issue 5 of 1995, the
magazine "Scooter Mobile subcompact" the Vespa 150 T4 has been tested extensively. Here are short excerpts from the report, which show
how well the Vespa 150 T4 arrived at the trade press:
...
Very nice idle, unrivaled quiet exhaust noise even at higher speeds, at 50 km / h in the city you sometimes need the horn, because people
do not hear a. If all small engines would be so low that there is no anti-bicycle crash-polemic.
...
The new elaboration of the engine has been good for him; it depends fine the throttle, pulls clean up from the lowest engine speeds, the
acceleration has won something, a bit of the tip. It has not trimmed it to high-performance, but left in the Vespa tradition of thrifty
household engine, but the overall pattern has become but felt fine. He keeps on the mountain better overexcited merrier, and true 75 km /
h are definitely in there ...

...
By clamping inclination, despite the mixing ratio of only 1:50 (the other two-stroke Bauer were invited to follow suit!) Be no question ...
...
Their handiness and maneuverability are exemplary. Is the GS bit overpowered, the touring Vespa in chassis, engine and overall system is
perfectly balanced.
...
Overall impression: Driving-chair with whistle
...
Production increased 1959 to 13954 scooters, the new Vespa 150 T / 4 with 52 percent (7321 pieces) could occupy the largest share of the
total production. Vespa Augsburg had taken in some areas of Germany the largest market share, especially in southern Germany.
Such rapid increases in production could 1960 no longer offer and 54 percent (9600 units) accounted for the largest part of the total
production of 17892 pieces back on the Vespa GS. The proportion of the Vespa 150 T / 4 now corresponded with 27 percent still 4889 pieces.
1961 squared Vespa Augsburg production program and was limited in the Vespa 150 T / 4 to the "de luxe" version. The "deluxe" version had
compared to the normal version with swing saddles a bench Company Denfeld and chrome trim. The Vespa 150 T / 4 had to give more play
the already sharp decline in total production of the model Vespa GS. There in 1961, only 2177 pieces of Vespa were 150 manufactured T / 4,
corresponding to a share of 22 percent of total production.

1962 was the last year the Vespa 150 T / 4 and also the end of the Augsburg production was already foreseeable. The new Vespa GS / 4 with
160 ccm capacity could not stop this development. From the Vespa GS / 4 in 1962 just 1955 pieces were made. For other models it did not
look better. From the Vespa 150 T / 4 only 1900 pieces were made, however, for the first time with either four- or three-speed
transmission. From the elderly Vespa 125 only 717 were manufactured.
In October 1963, production of the Vespa in Germany was finally stopped. From the Vespa 125 1963 only 400 pieces and the Vespa GS / 4
were manufactured only 506 pieces.
