Takamine introduces its eagerly anticipated
acoustic-electric guitars featuring the stunning
new palathetic pickups.
1986
The first Natural Series guitar is launched and
receives plaudits the world over.
And in this time weve introduced technological innovations in
order to meet the needs of musicians who are themselves
constantly pushing the boundaries of acoustic music. In this
dedicated UK brochure, we showcase the skill and technical
expertise of our craftsmen in some of the best instruments
weve ever made both acoustic and acoustic-electric. To this
day, our Japanese guitars are still for the most part, assembled
and finished by hand. Carefully selected tone woods are stacked,
turned and gently seasoned for many months in precisely
controlled atmospheric conditions before use. We check guitar
tops for resonance, grain and quality, while different levels of
flexibility are compensated for by subtly varying the dimensions
of the bracing. And whilst weve always held the traditional skills
of the luthier in the highest esteem, weve never been afraid to
advance the art of guitar building by embracing new technology
and ideas.
It was way back in 1978 when we introduced acoustic-electric
guitars suitable for high-power amplification into the marketplace
and musicians everywhere simply couldnt wait to get their
hands on them. These guitars incorporated the first incarnation
of the now legendary palathetic pickup, which set the standard
for the industry. Unlike the retro-fit pickups used by other
manufacturers, our pickup is an integral part of the bridge

ELECTRIFYING PERFORMANCE.
If you had to sum up the LTD2007s qualities in one word, it would be presence as this handcrafted
dreadnought-bodied instrument has it in abundance; both visually and sonically. The design is based
upon that most exciting of natural phenomena, the thunderstorm.
Below the deep lustrous black finish is a top of solid, seasoned spruce married to
solid sapeli mahogany back and sides a combination providing superb articulation
with warmth and sweetness.
The rosette features fabulously intricate storm design inlay work using Imbuia and
Persimmon, while abalone raindrops and a lightning bolt are inlaid onto the polished
ebony fingerboard. The dramatic black theme is carried all the way through to the
black and basswood body binding and ultimately on to the precision tuning machine.

HUMBLE ROOTS...
The Takamine E(T)F360SBG is brand new to our product line up and is better known as the Bluegrass model,

music ensembles.
The materials weve chosen for this thoroughbred full-bodied dreadnought have
been carefully selected from our stock of seasoned tonewoods. The superb
separation and cutting power of the Bluegrass come from the union of a premium
quality solid spruce top and solid rosewood back and sides, all finished in a flawless
natural high gloss. And in keeping with the Bluegrasss pure clear voice, weve kept
the look clean and uncluttered. The body is ivory bound with traditional herringbone

SUPERNATURAL HISTORY.
Everything about our SuperNatural Series exudes world-class pedigree, from the beautifully
understated styling to breathtaking vintage tone. None of which should come as any surprise given
that weve spent the last 40 years perfecting the art of designing and building outstanding acoustic
guitars. And the SuperNaturals are truly outstanding because of the time, materials and knowledge
we put into them.
12
You can specify your SuperNatural with either a solid spruce or solid cedar
soundboard. The spruce-topped version delivers a rich, bright tonality that
rewards even the most forceful playing and whats more, the sound will
improve with age and regular use. The honey-coloured cedar models possess
an altogether darker, more luxuriant tone with a rounder bottom end making
them the perfect choice for fingerpicking.
The SuperNatural Series does much more than pay homage to the master
luthier. These truly are vintage instruments of the 21st century featuring
technical innovations that have made Takamine famous. The acoustic-electrics*
come equipped with our palathetic bridge pickup linked to the CoolTube preamp.
This combination captures even the finest sonic nuance, delivering a warm, clear
amplified acoustic tone that is simply breathtaking.
Both the spruce and cedar models benefit from hand-scalloped X-bracing which
we fine-tune to suit the characteristics of the different soundboard materials.
The backs and sides are of beautiful bookmatched rosewood, chosen to
complement the inherent tone signature of the tops. The solid backs are braced
to control bottom end response and maximise projection.
In 1962 a small family business located at the base of Takamine mountain in Sakashita, Japan started making fine, handcrafted acoustic guitars. The rest is history. www.takamine.co.uk

NATURAL SELECTION.
The Naturals are the instruments of choice for thousands of professional musicians around the world,
and have become almost the industry standard acoustic-electric; and for some very good reasons. Solid
cedar tops, mahogany backs and a thin satin finish, endow these guitars with a lush, complex tonality
youll notice the moment you pick one up. Although be warned, putting it down again can be a problem.
The Takamine Natural is the quintessential acoustic, painstakingly assembled
using the finest materials and with ornamentation kept to the minimum. We even
decided against a pickguard to allow the soundboard greater freedom to vibrate,
thereby generating richer tone and providing longer sustain.
The Naturals are available in a wide range of body shapes, so there's sure to be
one you're totally comfortable with. For more information about the various
Takamine body styles, see page 26. We even produce a nylon-stringed Natural
that works just as well for civilised, soft-toned jazz as it does for classical music.
14
The Natural series was first introduced in 1986. Find out more at www.takamine.co.uk.
All of the Naturals in the acoustic/electric range come with the palathetic bridge
pick up system linked to our world class CTP-1 CoolTube preamp.
