He is Risen! Allelluia! Gods not dead! He is alive!

Once more our celebration of Christs resurrection renews our rebirth into the life of God. You
should notice that every Easter Sunday we renew our baptismal promises then we are sprinkled with
the holy water that was blessed during the Easter Vigil. It is because the resurrection of Jesus and
the baptism we received are inseparable. The Letter of Paul to the Colossians centers on Baptism.
He says: "When you were buried with Christ in Baptism, you were also raised with him." The
symbolism of being "buried with Christ" at Baptism, by going down into the water, we "die" to one
way of living. At parishes that have a baptismal pool, they practice the immersion of the person
baptized and it expresses more fully that the baptized are "buried with Christ in Baptism." The
second phrase should catch our attention: "When you were buried with Christ in Baptism, you were
also raised with him." Saint Paul doesn't say that because of Baptism "you will be raised with
Christ" at the end of your life. It's in the past tense: "you were raised with Christ." He goes on to say,
"God brought you to life along with him." Now think about that. When Jesus died, God brought
Him to a new life - a transformed, risen, human life. Paul says that we have received this same life.
This is the Good News of the Resurrection of our Lord: The resurrection isn't an event that
simply happened to Christ. The resurrection isn't simply something we look forward to
when we die. Saint Paul is saying that the resurrection of Christ affects us right now. We
are enfolded into the life of the risen Christ now!
Congratulations and welcome to our Catholic Community our newly baptized brothers and
sisters: from Saint Michael Brad David Vinardi and Jessica Lynn Little; from Saint Joseph Jill Suzanne Ashbacher, Travis James Myrick, Taylor Ellen Myrick, Peyton John Philip
Kocur, and Jacob Lance Kocur. Thank you to all who support our RCIA program especially our
sponsors: Dr. Adam and Faith Paoni, Donna Fleury, and Lindsay Waterman. I also thank Jerry and
Diane Hanson, Chris and Connie Sponsel, Don and Carol Cole, and Debbie Schaub for all their
support.
I thank all the people who made our Holy Week celebrations successful and meaningful! For

musicians Ruth Duling, Doug Lopeman, Chris Cox and members of the choir; to Nancy Hofer,
Faith Paoni, Michelle Puckett, to our CYM and catechists for the Easter Egg hunt! I thank the 12
volunteers for the washing of the feet! Thanks for the humility! Thanks again to Dave Garrett for
building the fire for the Easter Vigil. He has been doing it annually!
For Arma: thank you to our musician Jan Harman and Debbie Schaub our cantor, lectors, EMEs,
and altar servers; to Joan Barbieri and her Arts and Environment committee in decorating our
church and covering the statues! Thanks to all those who donated or contributed for the Easter lilies!

Wanted: CYM Youth for Prayer & Action Mission Trip

June 14-19 in McPherson, KS. Prayer and Action is a program

sponsored by the Office of Faith Formation for the Catholic Diocese
of Wichita. It is designed to provide a low-cost opportunity for
participants to experience a mission week. Prayer & Action combines
elements of simple community living with a daily ritual of prayer,
inspiring talks, fun activities and meaningful service to those in need.
Prayer and Action takes place over five days in parishes within the
diocese. Participants arrive on Sunday evening and stay until Friday
morning. Throughout the week, participants paint, clean, do yard
work, and perform other meaningful tasks for the poor, disabled, and
elderly. Participants spend the week in an atmosphere that is
free of distractions in order to foster their faith, inspire
charity, and lead them closer to Christ. We have taken youth
on this trip for the last 3 years. It is a life changing experience!
Please call Carrie Smith at 724-6684 or 238-0728 if you would like
your child to be involved in the mission trip this year. It is so
important to foster service in our youth.
