INTERNSHIPS
Summer Intern at Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, Mumbai (May-July 2013)
Worked on the design of pipelines for partially compressible flows for the flow of Motor Spirit
(Gasoline). Gained experience in petroleum refining and in the functionality of downstream
distribution network for various petroleum products.
Work done:
-Analysis of two phase compressible flows in high pressure buried pipelines.
-Development of mathematical models to solve the governing equations
-Discussion of possible numerical methods to solve for various profiles.
-Simulating to obtain velocity, pressure and temperature profiles.
-Validation of the results and suggestion of ways to enhance transport phenomena in such flows.
Summer Intern(project intern), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited, Mumbai (May 2013July 2013)
Title: Pipeline Design for Partially Compressible Flows for Motor Spirit (Gasoline).
Supervisors: Mr. B.S.Gopalakrishna, Senior Manager, Engineering and Projects Department.
Mr. Siddharth Vashisth, Project Engineer, Engineering and Projects Department.
Work done:
-Used basic fluid mechanics and transport phenomena principles as well as literature survey to
analyse partially compressible flows and extending these principles for the flow of Motor Spirit
(MS) in pipelines with the effects of wall friction and heat transfer.
-Analysing the different types of flow regimes that can be present under these conditions and
difference in flow regimes for horizontal and vertical flows.
-Predicting the flow regime for given conditions.
-Developing pressure and velocity profile for each flow regime.
-Prediction of the various pipeline parameters as well as permissible pressure drops based on
the flow regimes.
