    TECHNICAL INFORMATION
    ABSOLUTE ENCODER
    What is the difference between Incremental and Absolute?
    Based on a reference position, the absolute rotary encoder provides absolute
    angles of rotation. Through parallel encoding, these angles are expressed in Gray
    code rather than Binary code.
    The absolute encoder does not use a counter for determining angles. Angles are
    determined by the specific Gray code on the disk. Precision is not affected by
    electrical noise or vibration, called chattering. In case of power failure, precisely
    correct angles are generated upon recovery. A machine controlled by the encoder
    is set up easily; there is no need to initialize the encoder to the home position.

    The above figures show two methods for coding decimal


    numbers (Binary and Gray)
    In binary coding, the status of two or more adjacent bits
    changes to express a decimal number incremented by one. In
    Gray coding, the status of only one bit changes to express the
    same increment.
    Bit-wise response to input signal varies between the encoder
    and the connected device. In binary coding, this may cause
    erroneous readings or omission of certain bits.
