2014-15 WASHINGTON STATE BASKETBALL

Game 7 | vs. Idaho | Wednesday, Dec. 3 | Beasley Coliseum (Pullman, Wash.)

WSU RETURNS HOME TO HOST CROSS-BORDER RIVAL:
Washington State University mens basketball (3-3) returns
home to host cross-border rival, Idaho (2-3), Wednesday,
Dec. 3 at 7 p.m. at Beasley Coliseum.
Wednesdays game will be televised on Pac-12 Networks
as Rich Burk (Play-by-Play) and Dan Dickau (Color Analyst)
have the call.
The game is the Cougars second home game of the season and the first since hosting Idaho State, Nov. 21.
ERNIE KENT ENTERS FIRST SEASON WITH THE COUGARS:
Veteran head coach and former Fox Sports and Pac-12
Networks basketball analyst was named the 18th head
coach in WSU mens basketball history, March 31, 2014, replacing Ken Bone, who served as the Cougar head coach
for five seasons.
Kent came to Pullman with a 325-254 (.561) mark as
a head coach, having spent six seasons at the helm for
Saint Marys in Moraga, Calif., and 13 at Oregon.
In his 13 years at Oregon, Kent compiled a 235-174
(.575) record and a 109-125 (.466) conference mark.
His 109 conference wins rank 17th most in Pac-12 history (including Pacific-8 and Pacific-10 Conferences).
While at Oregon, Kent led the Ducks to seven postseason appearances, including five NCAA Tournament Appearances (2000, 2002, 2003, 2007, 2008) as
well as a Pac-10 regular-season (2002) and two conference tournament (2003, 2007) titles.
COUGARS VERSUS VANDALS; OLD RIVALS:
Washington State and Idaho are meeting for the
109th-consecutive mens basketball season.
The two schools have the oldest continuous rivalry
West of the Mississippi River.
It is the sixth longest continuous rivalry nationally
behind Columbia/Yale (115th season), Princeton/Yale
(115th season), Pennsylvania/Princeton (114th season), Columbia/Pennsylvania (113th season) and Cornell/Pennsylvania (113th season).
The Cougars also hold the eighth oldest continuous
rivalry, as they will face Oregon State for the 106thstraight basketball season this year.
For more on the rivalries, please see page three of
todays notes.
MORE ON THE SERIES:
The Cougars hold a 162-107 advantage in the all-time series and have won the last 11 games.
Last year the game came down to the buzzer as Washington State escaped with a one-points, 67-66 victory at
Moscows Cowan Spectrum.

In the last meeting at Pullman in 2012-13, then-senior

Brock Motum led WSU with a season-high 26 points, Nov.
28, 2012, as WSU defeated Idaho, 64-55.
Then-sophomore Dexter Kernich-Drew added a then
career-high 15 points and then-junior D.J. Shelton contributed 14 points.
For more on the series, please see page four of todays
notes.
Wednesday marks the first time that first-year WSU head
coach Ernie Kent will face Idaho.
ROAD WARRIORS:
WSU opened up with a two-game road trip in the state of
Texas, marking just the sixth time it has opened the season
with a true road game outside the state of Washington and
the first time since Nov. 19, 1999, a 80-55 loss at Nevada.
Washington State was the only Pac-12 school to open the
2014-15 season on the road.
In fact, in the first two weeks of the season (Friday, Nov.
14-Sun., Nov. 22), just five true road games were played by
Pac-12 schools, two of those were WSUs games.
The five road games dont include the seven neutral-site
games.
The Cougars had already played two road games before
any other Pac-12 school had played on the road or at a
neutral-site venue.
Five of WSUs first six games are away from Pullman, including three games at the Great Alaska Shootout, Nov.
27-29.
ABOUT THE COUGARS:
The Cougars are currently 3-3 after taking the final two
games of the Great Alaska Shootout over Rice and Missouri
State, respectively.
Last season WSU finished 10-21 overall and 3-15 in Pac-12
play, finishing 11th.
Nine letterwinners returned for the Cougs, including three
starters in seniors DaVont Lacy, Dexter Kernich-Drew and
Jordan Railey.
This season Lacy and sophomore Ike Iroegbu are the only
two Cougars to start all six games so far this season.
Lacy leads the team and ranks seventh in the Pac-12 in
scoring with 16.7 points per game, just less than three
points below his 19.4 ppg average last season.
Lacy ranks second in the league with 15 3-pointers made
this season, averaging 2.5 made per game.
Lacy is eighth in the conference for free throw percentage
with a .854 (35-for-41) clip.

2014-15 WASHINGTON STATE BASKETBALL

Game 7 | vs. Idaho | Wednesday, Dec. 3 | Beasley Coliseum (Pullman, Wash.)

Sophomore Josh Hawkinson is second in the league in
rebounding with 9.8 boards per game...hes tied for 11th
in the Pac-12 in scoring with 14.7 points per game, just 0.2
rebounds per game from a double-double an outing.
Hawkinson is eighth in the league with 1.7 blocked
shots a game.
Freshman Ny Redding has been a surprise for the
Cougars, moving into the starting lineup for the last
two games.
He leads the team and ranks fourth in the Pac-12 with
5.3 assists per game, ranking the highest among all
freshman for assists per game.
LACY MARKING UP RECORD BOOKS:
Senior DaVont Lacy is making his mark on the WSU
record books.
In the first round of the 2014 Pac-12 Tournament, Lacy
became the 34th Cougar to reach 1,000 career points,
ending the season in 32nd with 1,023 points.
He is the ninth-fastest Cougar to reach the milestone
as he accomplished the feat in 85 games.
Lacy has since moved up to 22nd on the list with
1,123 points...he is just 24 points from Steve Harriel
(1979, 81-83) in 21st with 1,147 points.
If Lacy were to average the same amount of points as
last season (19.4) and stays healthy and plays at least
31 games, he would finish his career with at least 1,624
points, which would put him fourth in WSUs record
books.
If he sticks with his career average of 12.0 ppg, he will
finish with 1,395 points which would put him at 11th in
the WSU career record books.
If Lacy stays at 16.7 ppg, he would finish with 1,540
points, which would put him at fifth in WSUs record
books.
Lacy is also climbing up the record books for career
3-pointers made and is on pace for the record, currently in sole possession of eighth place with 196 made
3-pointers.
He is currently 6 away from Chris Crosby (1997-2000)
in seventh place with 202.
Lacy is just 46 3-pointers away from tying Klay
Thompson for the school record...if he were to stay
healthy during his senior season, Lacy would need to
average just under 2 made 3-pointers per game to
reach the record.
BLOCK PARTIES:
Junior Junior Longrus has moved onto WSUs career
list for blocked shots, currently ranked 20th with 47
blocks in his career.
With a 0.7 career blocks per game average, Longrus
is on pace to finish with 85 blocked shots in his career,
which would put him at 12th on WSUs all-time list.

HAWKINSONS TRANSFORMATION:
Sophomore Josh Hawkinson is averaging 14.7 points,
9.8 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game in WSUs six
games this season...hes playing 31.0 minutes per outing.
Hawkinson had just his first and second career double-doubles in WSUs second and third games this
season...he had 14 points and 13 boards in the teams
loss at TCU and career highs with 26 points and 15 rebounds in the home opener against Idaho State.
Last season Hawkinson averaged just 1.2 points and
1.6 rebounds a game in 6.4 minutes an outing, while
compiling just 4 blocks the entire season.
He is scoring 13.2 more points and grabbing 8.2
more rebounds this year than last year and has already
played 6 more minutes than he did all of last year.
GREAT ALASKA SHOOTOUT WRAP UP:
The Cougars finished fourth at the 2014 Great Alaska
Shootout, Nov. 27-29 at Alaska Airlines Center at Anchorage.
Senior DaVont Lacy was named to the all-tournament team as he averaged 16.3 points in three games.
He was named Outstanding Player of the Game in the
Cougars final game, scoring 31 points, 26 of them in
the second half and overtime.
WSU fell to UC Santa Barbara in the first game, 71-43...
UCSB fell to Colorado State in the tournament championship.
Sophomore Josh Hawkinson was named Outstanding Player of the Game in game two, a 76-74 victory
over Rice, as he scored 27 points.
In the third game, WSU came back from 12 down at
halftime and won in overtime for the first time since
the 2010-11 season, an 89-84 win over Missouri State.
Freshman Ny Redding had 21 assists in three games,
leading all competitors in the tournament in assists per
game.
HAWKINSON LIFTS COUGS TO EXHIBITION WIN:
Sophomore forward Josh Hawkinson averaged just
1.2 points and 1.6 rebounds per game last year as a
freshman, but scored 24 points and grabbed 18 rebounds in WSUs exhibition win over Azusa Pacific,
Friday, Nov. 7.
Hawkinson was 10-for-11 from the field and 2-for-2
from 3-point range, while 16 of his boards came on the
defensive end.
Senior DaVont Lacy added 22 points for the Cougars,
17 in the second half.
Four newcomers saw action and three of them scored
(freshmen Ny Redding - 3 points and Trevor Dunbar - 1
point, junior Aaron Cheatum - 2 points).
Redshirt sophomore Que Johnson added 10 points
on 2-for-3 shooting from 3-point range.
