9. To obtain all nutrients we should take balanced food

Nutrients
The different necessities of nutrients in our body
Teaching learning interaction
Introduction :
This learning module is about the required nutrients of the body . I think you may be familiar with the method of
learning . I arranged the learning aspect in the form of small capsules . you just go through it and find out the answers of
question given . If you are correct in the first step you can go through other capsules . but if you are wrong you may repeat
the same capsule and find the answer to the question correctly .
Objection :
To attain knowledge about the vitamins required in our body and to get knowledge about the cames due to lack of
these vitamins .
Protest :
1. Which is the main nutrients which gives energy to our body
2. Two main source of carbohydrates
Answers :
1. Carbohydrate
2. Rice, cereals
Capsule 1

Carbohydrates is a chemical component of carbon hydrogen and oxygen. Carbohydrates is the main source of energy to our
body . rice , cereal tubers fruits are the main sources of carbohydrates . carbohydrates are found in the body in the form of
polysaccharides .
Question :1. What are the chemicals component of carbohydrates
2.Which is the main source of energy in our body .
3.Mention two food which gives carbohydrates .
Answers : 1.Carbon , hydrogen and oxygen
3. Carbohydrates
4. Rice , cereals
Pre-requisites

Teaching Learning Resource

References

a) The learner already know that nutrients are essential requirement of our body .
b) The learner already k now that nutrients are obtained from food .

a) A chart showing the different nutrients required by our body and the sources of
these nutrients and the deficiency results .

Capsule :2 :

Proteins are formed by to simple units called amino acids . There are about 20 amino acids in proteins .All of them contain
elements like carbon , oxygen , hydrogen and nitrogen . Some contain sulphur also .Protein build up body tissues .Main
source of proteins are pulses , fish , meat and milk .
Question : 1.What is the main component of protein?
2.What are the elements of amino acids?
3.Mention three main sources of food giving protein.
Answers : 1. Amino acids
2.Carbon ,Oxygen ,Hydrogen and Nitrogen
3.Pulses ,Fish ,Meat
Capsule :3

Lipids are the combination of elements ,carbon ,hydrogen and oxygen. Main sources of lipids are oil,
ghee and butter. Lipids are used to produce energy in our body. Lipids contain twice energy than carbohydrates .Excess
lipid in our body is stored beneath our skin. Hence they are combined as stored food. Simply units of lipids are fatty acid and
glycerol.
Questions : 1. What are the components of lipids ?
2.What are the sources of lipids?
3.Functions of lipids in our body
4.What are lipids composed of?
Answers : 1.Carbon ,hydrogen and oxygen.
2.Oil, ghee and butter.
3.Energy production.
4.Fatyy acids and glycerol.
Capsule :4:

Vitamins are organic compounds. Plant synthesis almost all vitamins . Only few vitamins are Synthesized in our body .Other
vitamins are to be obtained from food. There are two types of Vitamins ;fat soluble and water soluble .A, D, E and K are
soluble vitamins. B complex and C are water Soluble vitamins. Deficiency of vitamins leads to many diseases.
Questions : 1. What are vitamins?
2.What are the two types of vitamins?
3.Which are the fat soluble vitamins?
4.Which are the natural soluble vitamins?
5.Which is the main source of vitamins?
Answers : 1.Organic compounds.
2. Fat soluble and water soluble.
3. A, D , E and K.
4. B complex and C.
5. Leafy vegetables.
Capsule :5:

Minerals are also nutrients that promotes and regulate life activities .Minerals like Ca ,P ,Na ,K etc are Required in large
quantities ,Cu , Zn ,Fe ,I ,Mg etc are required in smaller quantities .Excess or deficiency of minerals leads to diseases.
Question : 1. What are the minerals required in our body in large quantity
2. Which are the minerals required in smaller quantity
Answers : 1. Ca , P , Na , K
2.Cu , Zn , Fe , I , Mg

Capsule 6 :

what is an percentage inorganic factor in our body . About 70% of body weight water . Water taken by in and the water
formed in the tissue due to metabolic activities are the main source of water in our body . water equilibrium is the intake
water is equal to the water lost from the body is necessary for the smooth functioning of the body .
Question : 1. What is the percentage of water of our body weight
2.when the intake and loss of water become equal , what is that state called ?
Answer : 1. 70 %
3. Water equilibrium
Review : The teacher asks some questions regarding the lesson
1. What are the main nutrients required by our body
2. What are the main source of proteins
3. What are the two types of vitamins in our body
4. What are the simple units of lipids
Activity : Make a chart mentioning all the nutrients required for our body with the source of each nutrients , its components
etc
