DASHMAN COMPANY (1) SITUATION ANALYSIS
This is a detailed case analysis of Dashman company. Dashman company is into manufacturing of the armed force of U.S. The company is good at its work and has expanded to 20 plants which work as autonomous bodies. In efforts to avoid the shortfall of raw materials required by the plant, Mr.Post is appointed to co-ordinate the purchasing activity by Mr.Menson, the president of the company and Mr.Larson an old employee of the company is now appointed as assistant to Mr.Post. Mr.Manson is a dodger. He recruited Mr.Post to avoid the shortfall of important raw materials at the time of world war. Till now he had encouraged plant managers to work as an autonomous body. Just after appointing Mr.post, even before introducing him to the company culture, he asked him to solve the problem. Mr.post decides to centralize the system by making some structural changes as plant executives need approval of the head office. Mr.post is experienced. He works in same pattern which reflects from the way he takes decisions. Mr.Larson suggested him to take the proposal personally to the executives as he has been working in the company for long time and knows almost all the executives personally. Mr.post lacks communication skills which can be seen when he refuses the suggestion of his assistant and writes letters to the executives regarding the serious decision that they have to inform him about purchase contracts. He is not result oriented, he has not taken any follow up of his decision even after six weeks. The plant executives were used to decentralization and resistant to change. the executives took Mr.post's decision as suggestion and followed their usual routine. Mr.Larson who worked in same decentralized culture suggested Mr.Post an effective way to implement the change for company's growth and effective change. After his suggestion was rejected he kept silence which resulted in ineffective change.
