Chickoo Milk Shake

Chickoo is another very baby friendly fruit because of its natural sweetness, mild flavour and easy
to swallow texture. Most babies relish chickoos, and so I have added milk to supplement it with
calcium, protein and vitamin A. It is important to remember to remove the pith carefully and to
peel off a nice thick layer of the skin, as these portions can hinder your baby's digestion, especially

Ingredients

1/4 cup chickoo peeled. dee-seeded and chopped
3/4 cup milk
Method
1.

Blend the ingredients together in a liquidiser and serve immediately.

Date Cream Cheese ( Baby and Toddler)

Date cream cheese will fulfill your babys daily calcium requirements, as babies by the time they
are 7 months old tire of milk. This recipe almost fulfils your baby's daily requirements of calcium
along with that of vitamin a.
Ingredients
1 cup milk
1 to 2 tsp lemon juice
1 to 2 dates (khajur) , soaked and pureed
1 tsp sugar
Method
1.

Bring the milk to a boil and keep aside for 2 to 3 minutes.
2.

Add 1 teaspoon of lemon juice and stir the milk. If the milk does not curdle completely, add the
other teaspoon of lemon juice and allow it to curdle completely. The whey should be transparent.
3.

Strain the solids through a muslin cloth, keeping the whey aside.
4.

Put the strained cream cheese in a blender and blend to make a smooth paste, adding more whey
if you need to thin down the consistency of the cream cheese. Allow it to cool slightly.
5.

Add the pureed dates and sugar and blend again to a smooth puree. Serve immediately.

Fig and Apricot Cream Cheese ( Baby and
Toddler)

Babies by the time they are 7 months old tire of milk. To meet their calcium requirement cream
cheese (or paneer as we know it), is an excellent source of concentrated energy, protein and
calcium. This recipe almost fulfils your baby's daily requirements along with being a good source of
vitamin a and c.
Ingredients
1 cup milk
1 to 2 tsp lemon juice
1 dried figs (anjeer) , soaked and pureed
2 dried apricots (kummani / jardalu) , soaked and pureed
1 tsp sugar
Method
1.

Bring the milk to a boil and keep aside for 2 to 3 minutes.
2.

Add 1 teaspoon of lemon juice and stir the milk. If the milk does not curdle completely, add the
other teaspoon of lemon juice and allow it to curdle completely. The whey should be transparent.
3.

Fruity Cream Cheese ( Baby and Toddler Recipe)

Cream cheese (or paneer as we know it), is an excellent source of concentrated energy, protein
and calcium. Some babies tire of milk by the time they are 7 months old, but their calcium
requirement still needs to be met. This recipe almost fulfils your baby's daily requirements along
with that of vitamin a and vitamin c.
Ingredients

1 cup milk
1 to 2 tsp lemon juice
2 tbsp pureed strawberries or mango pulp
1 tsp sugar
Method
1.

Bring the milk to a boil and keep aside for 2 to 3 minutes.
2.

Add 1 teaspoon of lemon juice and stir the milk. If the milk does not curdle completely, add the
other teaspoon of lemon juice and allow it to curdle completely. The whey should be transparent.
3.

Strain the solids through a muslin cloth, keeping the whey aside.
4.

Put the strained cream cheese in a blender and blend to make a smooth paste, adding more whey
if you need to thin down the consistency of the cream cheese. Allow it to cool slightly.
5.

Add the fruits and sugar and blend again to a smooth puree. Serve immediately.
Tips
1. Keep the drained whey aside to knead a chapati dough or to add into a soup or dal, as it contains
plenty of proteins.

3. FIG AND APRICOT CREAM CHEESE
4. Instead of the pured fruits, you can add 1 fig and 2 apricots, soaked in warm water for 20
minutes and drained. Remember to deseeed the apricots.
5. DATE CREAM CHEESE
6. Instead of the fresh fruits, you can add 1 to 2 deseeded dates.
7. Use the darker variety of dates as they are easy to puree in the blender than the red variety.

Jowar Banana Sheera ( Baby and Toddler Recipe)

After the age of 6 months, your baby will be ready to have foods that are of a more solid
consistency. This sheera is rich in carbohydrates, protein, iron and calcium and will keep your baby
'full' for a longer period of time. I have used banana to sweeten this sheera to make minimal use
of jaggery.
Ingredients
1/4 cup jowar (white millet) flour
1/2 cup milk
1 tsp chopped jaggery (gur)
1/4 cup mashed banana
1 tsp ghee
Method
1.

Heat the ghee in a non-stick pan, add the jowar flour to it and saut on a medium flame for 1 to 2
minutes or till it turns light brown in colour.
2.

Add the milk, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 30 seconds,stirring continuously so that no
lumps remain.
3.

Add cup of water, jaggery, mix well and cook on a medium flame for 1 minute, whikle stirring
continuosly.
4.

Switch off the flame, add the banana and mix well.
5.

Serve lukewarm, adding some warm milk to dilute the consistency to suit your baby's
requirements.

Vegetable Khichdi ( Baby and Toddler Recipe)

Khichdi is a complete meal in itself providing plenty of energy, protein and folic acid to your baby.
The addition of carrots makes it rich in vitamin a and fibre. This recipe is a good way of introducing
a mildly spiced meal to your baby's diet.
Ingredients

2 tbsp rice (chawal)
2 tbsp green moong dal (split green gram)
1 tbsp bottle gourd (doodhi / lauki) , peeled and grated
2 tbsp carrot , peeled and grated
1 peppercorns (kalimirch)
1 clove (laung / lavang)
a pinch of turmeric powder (haldi)
1/4 tsp cumin seeds (jeera)
a pinch of asafoetida (hing)
1/2 tsp ghee
salt to taste
Method
1.

Wash the rice and moong dal together and keep aside.
2.

Heat the ghee in a pressure cooker and add the cumin seeds.
3.

When the seeds crackle, add the asafoetida, clove and peppercorn.
4.

Add the bottle gourd and carrot and saut for a few seconds.
5.

Add the dal, rice, turmeric powder, salt and 1 cups of water and pressure cook for 3 whistles.
6.

When it is done, remove the peppercorn and clove. Whisk to combine the rice and dal together.
Serve lukewarm with fresh curds.

Yummy Oats and Apple Porridge ( Baby and
Toddler Recipe)

t his wholesome porridge made of oats, apples and milk can be served as a dessert or breakfast
after your baby is 6 months. Milk is a good source of calcium, which is extremely important for the
development of your baby's bones and teeth. Oats are high in energy, protein and fibre.
Ingredients
3 tbsp quick cooking rolled oats
1/4 cup peeled and finely chopped apple
1 tsp butter
1/2 cup milk
1 tbsp grated jaggery (gur)
Method
1.

Heat the butter in a broad non-stick pan, add the oats and saut on a slow flame for 2 minutes or
till the oats turn light brown in colour.
2.

Add the milk and jaggery, mix well and cook on a slow flame for 2 to 3 minutes, while stirring
occasionally.
3.

Add the apple, mix well and cook on a slow flame for 1 more minute.
4.

Remove from the flame and keep aside to cool slightly.
5.

When cool, blend in a mixer to a smooth pure.
6.

Serve lukewarm.
Apple Vegetable Soup

This soup is an excellent soup for babies who have started on solids (8 months onwards).
Ingredients
1 apple , deseeded , peeled and diced
1 medium sized carrot , peeled and diced
1/2 potato , peeled and diced
1 tbsp chopped coriander (dhania)
salt to taste
2 cm stick of cinnamon (dalchini)
Method
1.

Combine all the ingredients in a pressure cooker.
2.

Add 2 cups of water mix well and pressure cook on high flame for 4 whistles.
3.

Allow the steam to escape, before opening the lid.
4.

Remove the cinnamon stick
5.

Blend the mixer till the required consistency.
6.

Heat the pan and pour the soup and simmer for 5 minutes.
7.

Serve hot.
8.

Optional: You can add a pinch of cumin seeds powder if necessary.

Banana Milk Shake

A popular kid friendly shake recipe, Banana milk shake has the banana blended with sugar, cream
and milk and then served chilled with ice cubes on a summer day. The bananas are powerhouse of
nutrients and energy and hence makes for a healthy choice for children
Ingredients

2 bananas
4 to 5 ice-cubes
2 cups milk
3 to 4 tsp sugar

1.

First peel the bananas
2.

Then cut them and put it in the blender , add 2 cups of milk
3.

Add 3 to 4 spoons of sugar
4.

Add ice pieces
5.

Close the blenders cap tightly .
6.

Grind it till soft .then pour them into a glass and pop the straws
Cool Milk Shake

While blending everything in a blender, you can use some ice cubes which will be crushed and will
give you a chilled, nourishing, healthy drink!
Ingredients

2 apples
2 bananas
3 scoops vanilla ice-cream
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup mango juice
a drop of vanilla essence

1.

Blend all the ingredients well in a blender.
2.

Pour the shake into serving glasses and top it with another scoop of vanilla ice-cream

Fig and Honey Milk Shake

A delicious creamy milk shake recipe, fig and honey milk shake is lip smacking and yet so healthy.
The delectable milk shake is flavoured with dried figs , sweetened by honey and made creamier
with fresh cream and ice cream . A perfect cooling and nutrient dense beverage option, especially
for children
Ingredients

10 to 12 dried figs (anjeer)
4 to 5 tbsp honey
1 ltr milk
10 tbsp vanilla ice-cream

1.

Soak the figs in hot water for about one hour and then chop them into very small pieces.
2.

Mix figs ,honey,icecream and milk and blend.churn well so that there are no pieces.
3.

Pour the shake into tall glass and serve chilled
Potato Sheera

A farali sheera recipe , the Potato sheera has the grated potatoes cooked in ghee with sugar and
saffron strands. The delectabe sweet dish, sheera is best enjoyed on fasting days with chopped
nuts as garnish.
Ingredients

1/2 kilo boiled potatoes
1 cup milk
sugar as per taste (approx less than equal to smashed potatoes)
1 tea spoon elaichi powder
3 to 4 saffron strands
6 tbsp ghee
Method


1.

Heat tawa, add ghee and when it gets hot, add finely shamshed potatoes and sugar and stir
continuously.
2.

Fry the potatoes, add some milk in between and go on cooking on a medium to slow flame.
3.

When it turns to yellowish colour, add elaichi powder.
4.

Add some saffron strands in milk, get it disolved and then add to the sheera
Sheera

The all time favorite sweet dish recipe, the Sheera is prepared from roasted semolina or rava . The
suji is roasted in ghee and then cooked with sugar and water till soft. Enjoy as breakfast or tiffin
option with crushed nuts and raisins as garnish
Ingredients

1 cup semolina (rava)
1 cup pure ghee
1 cup sugar
1 cup milk
1 cup water
1 cup raisins (kismis) and almonds (badam)
1 cup chopped elaichi bananas
1/2 gm saffron (kesar) strands
10 gms cardamom (elaichi) powder
Method


1.

Fry rawa in ghee on medium flame till it turns reddish.
2.

Boil milk and water and then add to the rawa.
3.

Keep stirring continuously. when the mixture turns semi solid add sugar.
4.

Place a lid and let it cook for two to three minutes on low flame.
5.

Remove and add elaichi powder. dissolve saffron in milk and add to the rawa.
6.

Sprinkle elaichi powde and garnish with kismiss and almonds
7.

Decorate with pieces of bana

Strawberry Cake

Ingredients
2 cups plain flour
400 ml condensed milk
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
1 cup milk powder
2 tsp semolina (rava)
a pinch cardamom (elaichi) powder
3 to 4 drops strawberry essence
1/2 cup strawberry crush
200 ml soda
1/2 cup butter
Method
1.

Combine the plain flour, baking powder, baking soda, milk powder, semolina and cardamom
powder and sieve well.
2.

Put the melted butter in a deep pan and add the condensed milk and whisk well till smooth.
3.

Add the essence and crush and beat again.
4.

Add the plain mixture and beat well, adding soda till the batter is smooth and thin.
5.

Pour the batter in a greased baking tin and bake in a pre-heated oven at 200 degree Celsius for
30-40 minutes or till cooked.
6.

Cool on a wire rack and cut and serve
