This observation was taken for the first haft of Real Madrid and Granada match at the Santiago bernabeu in Spain, Madrid. This match is one of the Spanish leagues. Real Madrid is the third in standing and Granada is the eleventh. If you do not know about soccer you will notice that there are lexis that could be unfamiliar to you, but I am going to explain them. This game is very special to Real Madrid fans because the star (Ronaldo) of the team just won of the Ballon dOr, which is given to the best player in the world. Figured World: I think of it as group of people who share the same goal and the live in the same community. My figure world is Real Madrid, which is Spanish football (soccer) club. The club was founded in 1902. There are twenty-three professional players play for the club. The club plays in the Spanish league and the copa del rey and the Europe championship, which compound European soccer clubs. Cristiano Ronaldo the best player in the world in 2008 and 2013 play for Real Madrid. Ronaldo is the super star, he has joined the club in 2009 and he cost the club ninety-four million duller. The club had diversity of players from around the world, but the majority of the players have the Spanish citizenship. The manger and the head coach of the soccer team is Carlo Ancelotti. I chose to observe Real Madrid because I spend a lot of time watching their games and I know that I have good background about the club. The team founded for the people how used to play soccer in the streets and to gather them. The other reason is to make a professional team that can compete other teams in the country and in Europe. The team owned by city of Madrid. When the team founded the mine reason is to make soccer team, but that developed to include many sports, for example, basketball. Real Madrid is one of the famous soccer teams in the world. They have a stadium and in it there is store that sells the jerseys of the team and soccers equipment. As any sport in the world to watch the game in the stadium you have to buy ticket. The stadium considers tourist attraction a lot of tours of the city of Madrid visit it. I think these are the major ways that the club earns money from. Real Madrid has soccer schools around the world that help young children to be soccer players and they have one in Madrid. The discourse community that expected to see in my choose is players that has goal which is wining titles and make their fans happy. I believe that there is another discourse community that by supporting the young children to find their talents.

Albadin 2 Rules and conventions for appropriate behavior in my figured world: In the club there are a lot of rules between the player each other and between the fans. The players have to come to the training on time and they have to respect the coach choices. For example, the players who are assigned to start the game and who are going to stay on the bench has to accept the coach chooses. In the stadium the fans and the players are not allowed to smoke. The club has penalty for the fans that come down to the field. Even players who get read card during the game the club has penalty for that sometimes it deducted from their salary. The fans participant is very important to give the players enthusiasm to give their best and that could be very loudly and that acceptable. They have to respect the referees decisions. The unity between the players is recommended to win. Playing with sportsmanship is required for example; when player from the other team injured you have to stop the ball even if the referrer complete the game. Sometimes the fans make sirens censure for certain player and he has to be calm and respect that. In the stadium you cannot carry bags with you for security reasons. Sleeping during the game could be indecent. Because that is might consider offensive to the team. In this figure world if player move to club in the same city, that might make the fan dislike him. Players have to respect each other and do not cause problems. Actors: Are the people who play the roles in the figured world and without them we cannot say that there is figured world. In my observation there are actors who I have mentioned and I will list their names and their roles. Carlo Ancelotti: He is the head coach and the manger of the team. He is Italian and he is quiet compering to the previous manger he just arrived to the team and he is in his first year. Cristiano Ronaldo: He is the star of the team and one of the important players in the team he has the highest salary among soccer players in the world and he is the best player in the world. His nickname is CR7 and its taken from his name and the shirt that he wears. He has a serous character in the field, he plays as leftwinger in the team and sometimes move from left to right. Gareth Bale: He is the second most expensive player in the world. He just moved to Real Madrid and he cost the club 93 million dollars. He is young and talented player. Karim Benzem: He is a French player and he plays as striker. A lot Real Madrid fans say that he is lazy player, but I think he is doing well since the beginning of this season. Sergio Ramos: He is the captain of the team and he plays as defender. He won the world cup and most of the prizes that any soccer player wishes to win. He is a

Albadin 3 strong player and sometimes he commits a lot of fouls and he has the highest red card in the team history. Marcelo Vieira: He plays in the defiance in the left side and he makes a wonderful dual with Cristiano. He is the guy that makes the players laugh and he has nice character. He always smiles. ngel di Mara: He is front midfielder and he crates goals. He is a selfish player he does not pass the ball if he has a chance to score, but that does not mean he has not skilled he know how to pass the ball from a great distance. Luka Modri: He is midfielder and he is one of the important players. He moved to Real Madrid last yare he cost the club 33 million. His nickname is the magical man. His role in the team is to connect the defiance lines to offensive lines. Artifacts: I think of artifacts as the objects that have meaning to the person who has it and sometimes it old. The Ballon dOr: it is golden ball it looks like the soccer ball and it is giving to the best player in the world, which is choosing by the FIFA (The Fdration International de Football Association). The soccer ball: This object has meaning for all of the players in the filed are looking for it and the game is biased on it. Referees flag: This flag is raised when one of the players makes a foul. When the referee raise it the game stop. So it is important to be attention for it. Referee whistle: the referee uses it to stop the game and start. Referee cards: he has two cards the first card is the yellow, which means a caution and another one will send off a player, the red card means you are out of the game.

Discourse Communities: It is the people who have something in common and they have the same goals. The referees: There are 4 referees in the game. The referees try to enforce justice between the two teams. Ramos, Pepe, Marcelo all of them have to stop the players from the other team from scoring and defense. The defenders of the other team, they try to stop Real Madrid players from scoring a goal or getting close to the goal.

Albadin 4 Literacy Practices: It is the way that people communicate with each other on sometimes it is written and sometimes it is spoken. Carlo Ancelotti during the game asked his player to change their position and he was speaking to Bale to change his place with Ronaldo and he shows an important literacy practice, which is advice and guidance. Benzema made a sign using his hand for his colleagues to make pressure on the other teams defense. The goalkeeper asked his colleagues to make human wall by speaking to them and give them sign. I would say both of them share the same literacy practice, which is responsibility and care. Ronaldo was so sad and disappointed when he missed a goal you can notice that from his body language. I think he showed us some type of literacy practice and he share this practice with each player in the filed which is competitivity, but Ronaldo showed it to us when he missed the goal. Offside: offside position a player is in an offside position if "he is nearer to his
opponents' goal line than both the ball and the second to last opponent," unless he is in his own half of the field of play. A player level with the second to last opponent is not in an offside position (FIFA).

Cross-: moving the ball from the right to the left or from left to the right. Box: the place that close to the goalkeeper and he can catch the ball inside it. Before the game started the fans in the stadium made a beautiful a picture and it said CR7. They made the picture because it is the first home game for Cristiano Ronaldo since he won the Ballon dOr. Ronaldo walked around the stadium than took his colleagues asked him to take a picture with them.

Albadin 5 10:01 the head coach Ancelotti seem very relax (I think because the last four wins for the team). 10:02 Granada first chance but Pepe hit the ball and it goes to a corner. 10:05 Gareth Bale try to make a run in the right side but Granada defense stop him. 10:07 offside against Granada called by the second referee (Real Madrid players raised their hands to get the second referee attention). 10:08-09 Gareth bale was fouled and it seem serious (he looks uncomfortable). 10:11 it is corner for real Madrid and Modric played it to Ramos who hit by his head and it goes out (to the right side of the goal). 10:13 Real Madrid fans cheer Gareth bale after returning to field. 10:15-10:17 Granada players keep holding the ball and Real Madrid players try to make a pressure. 10:17 Ramose and Marcelo commit a foul and the referee give Ramose yellow card and he talked with referee ramose seem unhappy with the referee decision. 10:18 the Ancelotti is talking with the players and gives them instructions. 10:22 the pressure is higher from real Madrid players and Benzima miss a great chance to score. 10:25 Ronaldo make a beautiful run and he shoot the ball but he miss the target. 10:27 corner for Real Madrid and Di Mariah played it to Ramose who pass the ball to Benzima and he score, but the third referee raised his flag and he cancel the goal Benzima was offside. 10:28 Benzima make a sign for his colleagues to make pressure. 10:36 the game still nil between the two teams. 10:37 Gareth shot a ball but it is very wide and it goes so high to the left side of the goal.

10:42 the Ancelotti seems unhappy of his players performance and he talks with players when he has the chance. Albadin 6 10:45 the referee add one minute one the original time (I think he added it because of Gareth injury so he gives the players more time than, what has been wasted while the referee stopped the game). 10:45-46 Modric made a cross from the right side to the box which Cristiano was taken a place in it and he made a bicycle kike which seem tremendous play the goal keeper made a wonderful safe and put the ball away (Ronaldo seem very sad and unhappy and he moved his hand which seem that he is unhappy). 10:46 the referee used his whistle to stop the game and that means the end of the first half (the first half end and the score is nil for both teams). Albadin 7 Observation two 28, January 14 Time 3:00-3:45 pm This observation was taken for Real Madrid and Espaola during their game. The game is one of the games in the Copa Del Rey competition and it means Championship of Spain His Majesty the King's Football Cup. The game is the second leg of the quarterfinal. In the first leg Real Madrid won by goal scored by Benzame in Espaola stadium. This game is playing in Santiago Bernabu, which is Real Madrid stadium. *Note: some of the actors in observation one stile play the same roles in observation two and I will add new actors who join the figure world in this part. Actors: Iker Casillas: He is goalkeeper and he has been playing for the club since 1990 and he is the captain when he is in the field. He got most of the prizes that goalkeeper wish to get. Isco: He signed for Real Madrid last summer and he coasted the club 30 million. He is young player and he has great future. Fabio: He is defender player and he gets injured a lot. He is a good player but he does not know to control on his nerves 3:01 Isco made a good run, but defiance stopped him and he asks for a corner. 3:02 Free kick for Ronaldo, he shot but it goes right a cross the goal and it was so close. 3:05-6 Real Madrid has the position of the ball and they try to score. 3:07 nice long assist from Xabi to Jese who control the ball while he is making short run and he shot the ball and it passed the keeper from his right side to the goal (the first goal for Real Madrid by Jese). 3:09 Fabio was fouled.

3:10 offside on Di Mariah who seems very active in this game. Albadin 8 3:11 Ronaldo made a lovely run and made a cross from the left side to Isco who was in the box , but he could not control the ball and he lose it. Observation two 3:14 Real Madrid is controlling the game and Di Mariah keep losing the ball; he made a lot of wrong passes. 3:16 nice game from Espaola players but real Madrids defenders stopped it the defenders are doing well 3:17 Ronaldo made a wonderful run and passed the defiance and shot, but the goalkeeper catches the ball. 3:18 corner for Espaola and Iker asks the player to open their eyes and each player hold other one by making sign. 3:21 Fabio passed the ball to Ronaldo who shot the ball but the goalkeeper safe it. 3:23-24 the ball is playing between the midfielders players. 3:26 offside on Ronaldo. 3:27 the fans are singing for Real Madrid by saying halal Madrid. 3:30 corner form the left side Espaola and Iker hit the ball by his hand and it goes away to middle. 3:32 Di Mariah made shoot but the keeper sends it away to corner. 3:35 Isco was fouled and Espaolas player got a yellow card. 3:37 the referee called for handball on Espaola player. 3:39 Espaola player shot the ball but he was offside. 3:41 Real Madrid defender made a foul and got a yellow card and the foul close Real Madrid goal and it seems threat, but it goes away to the right side. 3:43-44 Espaola players are trying to score before the end of the first half. 3:45 End of the first half. Real Madrid 1-Espanola 0.

Albadin 9 Observation three 2, February 14 Time: 3:00 3:46 I observation Real Madrid game, the game was between Athletic Bilbao and Real Madrid. The game is part of the Spanish league competition. The game was played in San Mams stadium, which is the new stadium of Athletic Bilbao. Since Athletic open the San Mames stadium no team has defeat them in their home stadium. The stadium located in Spain Bilbao city. *Note: some of the actors in observation one stile play the same roles in observation two and I will add new actors who join the figure world in this part. Jes Rodrguez: He is young player and he plays in forward position. He was playing for Real Madrid castill, which is Real Madrid for young players. Actors: Xabi Alonso: One of the important players in the club. I think of him as backbone of Real Madrid and he is midfielder. The nickname that people have given him is the maestro. Daniel Carvajal: He played for Real Madrid castill than he moved to another club. In that club he showed that he deserve to play for Real Madrid they brought him back this year. He plays as right defender. 3:00 Real Madrid player Benzema made a pressure one the goalkeeper who made wrong pass to Ronaldo who shot just went beside the goal to right side (Ronaldo seem un happy with the result). 3:02 Carvajal pass the ball to Benzema who passed the ball to Di Mariah who shot the ball but it is too wide it goes to the left of the goal. 3:03 Real Madrid making high-pressure on Athletic defense which is doing very well against Real Madrid Attack.

3:04 Real Madrid players are playing the ball in their area and Athletic players try to make a pressure on them. Diego who is Real Madrid goalkeeper made a mistake and he cause corner but the defiance clear it away.

Albadin 10 Observation three 3:05 Ronaldo was fouled. 3:08-3:11 the ball is moving between the midfielders players from both teams 3:14 Real Madrid players are making silly mistake by passing the ball to Athletic players. 3:14 Carlo Ancelotti making sigh for his player to be calm and focus (I think he noticed that they are nervosas). 3:16 Athletic players made a good play, but Carvajal made a good clear. 3:17 Athletic player made a run and shot and he missed the goal and it was close. 3:18-19 Athletic is making high pressure in Real Madrid defiance. 3:21 Xabi made a foul and Athletic player asking the referee to give him a yellow card. 3:23 Handball on Benzem, and he got injured when he jostle Athletic player. 3:25 Corner for Athletic and Ronaldo hit by his head. 3:29 Xabi made a tackle from the back for the Athletic and he got yellow card. 3:33 Ronaldo got fouled and Di Mariah played it to Modric who lost the ball for Athletic. 3:35 Referee call for a foul on Modric. 3:37-38 Athletic player are controlling on the game. 3:42 Real Madrid trying to pass the ball for Ronaldo and they are making long ball. 3:44 Real Madrid player made beautiful play but Athletic defiance stopped it by tackling Benzema who asks for a foul.

Albadin 11 Interview This interview was conducted with Florentine Perez the president of Real Madrid club. He ran the club for the first time in 1997 and he left the club in 2006 he said that the club needs a new way. Than he returned to run the club in 2009 and Real Madrid fans considered him the golden president. He has spent around 4 billion and 150 million. Note: This is a fiction conversation. 1. Tell me about the goals that you want to the club to reach? RMP:I have a lot of goals and I will tell some of them if you are interesting. Me: I really like to hear some of them. RMP: I would like to see the club as the best club in the world and for short terms goals I want the club to win the choppiness league. The club just anoints for restoration and I love to see that I made a real change that people can remember me of what I did in the club. 2. A lot of people think that you spend a lot of money to buy players and last year you spent 160 million and the people think that you spoil the market and raise the price of the players market it? RMP: This is something that I do not have control in and if the club wants a player, we negotiate with his club and they control on the price of their player. Let me tell you something this people who say that I am spoil the market are the same people who I negotiate with. Me: what do mean. RMP: I mean that they raise the price of their players than they expect the market to stable. 3. Being real Madrid president required for my a lot of things tell us about it? RMP: One of the tings that I have to do and I love to do is I have to be with team when they are traveling. Me: Do you love to travel? RMP: I used to love it, but I have traveled a lot and most of them with club.

Another thing that I have to do that I have to make sure that the team has the players that fit the need of it. Also make sure that the club is making good income that can help to buy players and to develop

Albadin 12 4. You bought a player that cost you half a billion dollars can you tell us how much you budget and what are your resources? RMP: Buying players with high qualities is required form our fans and to be in the top ten club in the world you have to spend a lot of money and sometimes it more than you have. Me: so you take loans from banks? RMP: sometimes we do, but we have sponsorships that support us for example, Emirates fly, we have contract with Adidas they give us almost 39 million and they supply for us the sports equipment, Audi each year gives the club Crew new cars. Also we have the tickets for games, the official store sells millions of jerseys and other soccer equipment. 5. What is your daily schedule and what do you do before the games and if you talk with players what do you say? If it important game does your speech changes? RMP: usually I spend my morning in my office afternoon is full of meetings in the night I watch the game in the club or if it is not game day I spend it wit my family. Me: so your family is okay with your traveling? RMP: Since my wife passed I spend my time with my son and he is fine with that. I travel with the team in the same airplane and we talk to each other and if they are big games I talk with them as if it a normal game I do not want to out pressure on them.
