Read the passage below and complete the following task.
Engineering student Edmond got his first guitar when he was 14, and he has been
learning everything about the guitar since, from the Internet. Before getting my guitar, I
knew that I would be getting most of my lessons online. Although my parents allowed me to
enrol in music classes, I declined because it would be more flexible getting lesson online,
says the 18-year-old Edmond.
Learning from the Internet fits his busy schedule as he could access his guitar lessons
any time he wanted, and is not bound to fixed class schedules. Besides, most classes are
only about once a week, while the Internet is able to provide you endless hours of learning.
Want to learn a song at 3 a.m.? Its as easy as turning on your computer and searching for
the song, says Edmond.
Edmond learns mostly from Youtube, where most of the tutorials and lessons are free,
and there is an abundance of sources for him to choose from. The number of page views
the video garnered plays an important role in determining which video I choose to learn from.
I started off playing chords then I learnt the scales and finger-picking. Playing solos became
more natural then. When learning a song, I would read the tabs (notes) first, and if some
parts get complicated, I would refer to the players finger movement.
Also, you dont have to start all the way from the beginning to learn the theory, notes,
and stuff that generally bores a teenager. Even though I do want to learn theories and notes
someday, for now Ill enjoy my instant guitar gratification.
Apart from guitar lessons, you can find tutorials for just about any musical instrument on
the Internet. But the downside is that you may be able to imitate the teachers hand
movements, not everyone will agree that you can actually play.
