Tenure-Track Faculty Positions in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies (Assistant/Associate Level) Howard University

The Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies (ELPS) at Howard University is seeking applicants for three (3) full-time, tenure track positions. The appointment is at either the Assistant or Associate Professor level. One position is available immediately (AY 2013-2014) and two are available for August 2014. Howard University, Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies The Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies (ELPS) at Howard University consists of two nationally recognized degree programs: Master of Education, Doctor of Education and one certificate program: Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study. The Graduate Programs in ELPS are designed for students preparing to become senior level educational leaders and policy professionals. The programs reflect Howard Universitys commitment to addressing the needs of urban and diverse school systems by expanding the pool of diverse and wellprepared professionals. We seek candidates who are committed to these same ideals and wish to contribute to our learning community. Howard University Howard University is a federally chartered, private, coeducational, nonsectarian, historically black university located in Washington, D.C. It has a Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education status of RU/H: Research Universities (high research activity). Howard Universitys commitment to preparing educational leaders dates back to 1890. The School of Education seeks to improve and expand educational opportunity and access, particularly for African Americans and other underserved communities with a strong institutional commitment and capacity for advancing educational leadership preparation, research, and practice. Position Description The ELPS program seeks candidates to teach graduate courses in education leadership and policy at the masters and doctoral levels; serve on doctoral dissertation committees, develop and pursue a program of scholarship and publication; advise students; work cooperatively with area public schools; and contribute to department, school and university committees. Qualifications Expertise in one or more of the following areas is desired: education leadership, educational policy, quantitative analysis, and issues of social justice. Preference will be given to persons who have K-12 administrative experience, evidence of research/publications, and experience with grants and sources of other external funding. The successful candidate must have an earned doctorate degree in educational leadership or a closely related field from an accredited university.
