Procedure
Procedure No: F&E0003
Version No: 1 Issued : 23/04/2008
1 Purpose
The objective of this fire and evacuation procedure manual is to familiarise all staff members
of Company with the emergency procedures in place to facilitate a safe, orderly and timely
evacuation when necessary.
2 Scope
The following procedure applies to all members of staff, contractors, visitors or customers of
Company.
3 Priorities
3.1 Protection of Life
The first priority is to ensure that all people who may be in danger are warned, and
that action is taken to guarantee their safety, before any steps are taken to prevent
the spread of the hazard, to secure assets, or to eliminate the hazard.
4 Actions
On hearing someone shouting ‘Fire’, be aware there is a real or potential emergency in the
building. You should only attempt to extinguish the fire if it is practical to do so and whilst
being aware of your own safety, otherwise;-
A. Exit the building in a calm and orderly, but quick fashion.
B. Obey any directions given.
C. Assist mobility impaired people to the appropriate fire exit.
D. Maintain one clear step between yourself and the person in front of you on the
stairwell to prevent stumbling.
E. When out of the building, move well clear of the building to avoid hindering those
coming behind you.
F. Proceed immediately to the designated assembly area which is to be in the car park
on the opposite side of the road, in-front of ‘Mad Dog’ (See Appendix A).
G. Only return to the building when instructed to.
It is the responsibility of the person who attempts to fight the fire to be aware of his/her
surroundings and the fire equipment to be used. If you don’t know, don’t attempt to extinguish
the fire. See Appendix A (Fire Equipment).
