1. Package Contents

Carefully unpack and remove the contents and contact your dealer
immediately if any of the following items is missing or damaged:

 1456PVA 56K PCI Modem


 RJ11 Telephone Cable
 Setup CD with Modem Drivers & User Manual

2. Minimum System Requirement

 PC-based computer with Pentium II processor and above


 One free PCI slot
 64MB RAM or more
 20MB hard disk space (System Files & Modem Drivers only)
 CD-ROM drive
 Operating System
• Windows: 98SE / ME / 2000 / XP (32/64 bit) / 2003 /
Vista (32/64 bit)
• Linux Kernels: RedHat 8,9 / Fedora 3,4 / SuSE 9.1 & 9.2 /
Mandrake 10

3. Hardware Installation

CAUTION: Before removing the cover from your


computer, turn off and unplug the computer and all
attached peripherals. Discharge any static electricity
from your body by touching any metal surface before
removing the modem from its antistatic bag.

1. Turn off and unplug your computer from the AC outlet.


2. Remove the computer's cover according to its owner's manual.
3. Select any available PCI bus slot.
4. Remove the bracket and save the screw.
5. Carefully insert the modem into the selected slot. Apply even
pressure until the modem is firmly seated.
6. Secure the bracket with the screw saved earlier. Store the bracket for
future use.
7. Replace the computer cover and plug in your computer. Reconnect all
cables.
8. Connect the telephone cable into the modem's " " connector
(see Figure 2-1). Attach the other end into the telephone wall jack.

4. Installing 1456PVA 56K PCI Modem Drivers

A. Windows 98 / ME / 2000:

1. Power on your computer. Upon successful entering Windows 98 /


ME / 2000, the system will detect the newly installed modem and the
“Add New Hardware Wizard” window will appear. Click
“Cancel”

2. Insert the 1456PVA Setup CD into your CD-ROM. Enter the driver
folder of your operating system by double clicking on the folder.

3. Click the ‘Setup’ file.

4. Click ‘OK’ when the DO you want to install the modem driver
screen appears and the system will detect & install the modem driver.

B. Windows XP Home / Professional / XP64:

1. Power on your computer. Upon successful entering Windows XP, the


system will detect the newly installed modem and the “Add
New Hardware Wizard” window will appear. Click “Cancel”

2. Insert the 1456PVA Setup CD into your CD-ROM. Enter the driver
folder of your operating system by double clicking on the folder.

3. Select the folder depending on your version of XP.

4. Click the ‘Setup’ file.

5. Click ‘OK’ when the DO you want to install the modem driver screen
appears.

6. Click ‘Continue Anyway’ when the compatibility warning screen


appears and the system will detect and install the modem driver.

C. Linux Kernels:

The Drivers for RedHat 8,9 / Fedora 3,4 / SuSE 9.1 & 9.2 / Mandrake 10 are
provided in the Setup CD.
