Thanks for the response to the reporting to parents survey; here are the results for the questions that can be graphed on page two. We received 41 survey responses to collate. Thank you. The other definite three themes that came through from the comments we have summarised into the following. Parents wanted to know :

1. Can we have more about the social, emotional wellbeing of our child. 2. Are they putting in a good effort towards their learning? 3. How can we help at home?
This feedback from you will be used as we design our new end of year reporting template. To this end the staff have planned a HOW CAN WE HELP AT HOME? Parent information evening to be in the School Hall on Tuesday September 3 starting at 7.00pm We hope that many of you will join us for an informative dialogue about teaching and learning. We will have an introduction then we will have staff hosting a variety of presentations that will cover the core curriculum areas in Literacy and Numeracy. You will have the opportunity to visit three stations, ask questions, clarify your thinking and also leave with some useful resources that can help the home learning. As parents and whnau you play a big part in your childs learning every day, and you can support and build on what they learn at school too. Help support your childs learning by building a good relationship with your childs teacher, finding out how your child is doing and working together to support their learning. We look forward to seeing many of you there. Here are some simple ideas for starters. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. TIP: Help your child to link stories to their own life. Remind them about what they have done when a similar thing happens in the story. TIP: Talk a lot to your child while you are doing things together. Use the language that works best for you and your child. TIP: Talk about what your child writes. Be interested. If you dont understand what your childs picture or story is about, ask them to explain. TIP: Being positive about mathematics is really important for your childs learning even if you didnt enjoy it or do well at it yourself at school. TIP: Keep writing fun and use any excuse you can think of to encourage your child to write about anything, any time

Enjoy a Spring September weekend.

JUNGLE GYMS : Mini Working Bee

We are really close to getting our jungle gyms re-installed after a lot of fundraising and a lot of patience!!!! People on the end of shovels and wheelbarrows are needed on Saturday 7 Sept at 9am. We have a digger being donated to get the worst done and need some people to shift dirt and make Salford Hill. Please let the school office know if you and a shovel/wheelbarrow can come and give an hour of your time between 9.30 12. Many hands make jungle gyms work!! Happy Spelling practice. Lyndal

SPELLATHON BENEFITS STUDENT AND SCHOOL.

This is an activity where students earn donations from friends or relatives by participating in a spelling test. Donations provides students with a strong incentive for learning new vocabulary and studying for the spelling test. In traditional spelling tests students are often disheartened by having marks deducted for mistakes. This activity, by contrast, is success-oriented and confidenceenhancing, as students' effort are rewarded according to the number of words they have spelt correctly.
