(b) All stainless steel can be grouped into three metallurgical classes: AUSTENITIC FERRITIC MARTENSITIC
xiv
They are non-magnetic so that they can be easily identified with a magnet. They have the following composition
0.03 to 0.25%
They are used in: Aircraft industry (engine parts) Chemical processing (heat exchangers) Food processing (kettles, tanks) Household items (cooking utensils) Dairy industry (milk cans) Transportation industry (Trailers and railways car), etc.
xv
C Si Mn Cr
Ferritic stainless steels have the following uses: Lining for petroleum industry Heating elements for furnaces Interior decorative work Screw and fittings Oil burner parts
Martensitic stainless steels are identified by their martensitic microstructure in the hardened condition. Because of the higher carbon-to-chromium ratio, martensitic stainless steels are the only types hardenable by heat treatment. These steels are magnetic in all conditions and possess the best thermal conductivity of the stainless types Hardness, ductility and ability to hold an edge are characteristics of martensitic steels. Martensitic stainless steels can be cold worked without difficulty, especially with low carbon content, can be machined satisfactorily, have good toughness, show good corrosion resistance to weather and to some chemicals and are easily hot worked. Martensitic stainless steels have the following composition:
C Si Mn Cr

1.7 WELDING
(a) Welding is the process of joining similar metals by application of heat with or without
application of pressure and addition of filler material. The application of welding are so varied and extensive that it would be no exaggeration to say that there is no metal industry and no branch of engineering that does not make use of welding in one form or another.
TYPES OF WELDINGS:-
xix
MIG welding is a commonly used high deposition rate welding process. Wire is continuously fed from a spool. MIG welding is therefore referred to as a semiautomatic welding process. It is mainly used to Mild Steel But when sheet thickness is above 3mm it is also used for Stainless Steel.
xx
1.7.3
ARC WELDING
It is mainly used for Mild Steel But when sheet thickness is above 6mm it is also used for
Stainless Steel and 409 Grade is used for Mild Steel and Stainless Steel. Due to the use of arc welding primer is used on that area.
STUD WELDING
Stud welding is a form of spot welding where a bolt or specially formed nut is welded onto another metal part. The bolts may be automatically fed into the spot welder. It is used for studding portion and they did not give back impression.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF MACHINES USED
2.1 Water Jet Cutting Machine
Can cut depth up to 200 mm of thickness of the job which indicates its high machining capability.

The main advantage of this machine is to cut a job upto 200mm thickness which shows its high machining capability. In cutting operation sand (Silicate) mesh quality are used: 80 Mesh 120 Mesh(Better cutting quality)
xxiii
2.1.2 ADVANTAGES
Quick to setup and easy to program (make money on short runs) High accuracy control of cutting, upto 0.001mm. Special pressure ramping technique to prevent delaminating (cracking) brittle materials while piercing (drilling). Steady cutting stream, no abrasive output interruption. Low cutting consumable cost.

As the length of the sheet decreases 3 meter the thickness of the sheet may be increases spontaneously.
xxiv
2.3.1 Principle
An extremely concentrated force of water is used in such kind of machines to cut jobs of very high thickness. In this machine water at very high pressure that is ranging from 30000-60000 psi(N/m^2)when mixed with very fine abrasive garnets (Silicate or sand ) is used to cut very hard materials like stainless steel, titanium, Glass, ceramic tile, marble and granite. Also due to the fact that water at room temperature itself is used as a cutting tool therefore the Heat Affected Zone (HAZ) is very less. Hence a very high grade finishing is obtained compared to other machining processes. Moreover, since it is a cold cutting process hence it is safe to cut inflammable materials as well.

The tailstock can be used to support the end of the work piece with a center, or to hold tools for drilling, reaming, threading, or cutting tapers. It can be adjusted in position along the ways to accommodate different length workpices. The ram can be fed along the axis of rotation with the tailstock hand wheel.
Shot blasting is Machine in which surface of annealed stainless steel is been blasted forcibly with the help of steel shots of dia 0.5 mm for cleaning of hard scales before pickling section.
Every HR coil is to be shot blasted. The shots first inserted in the Hooper, from there the shots divided into 4 sections and then to Magna valves and through valves to wheels for striking to the strip goes to the wheels.
From wheels after blasting shots get collected at lower abrasive conveyor & thro. Elevator its goes at the top thro. Upper abrasive conveyor it is collected at shot storage Hooper.
xxix
Elevator consists of a belt on which large no. of buckets are attached. With the help of these buckets, shots are carried at the top from their the shots goes to Hooper 1 & 2.

3.2 Concept of 5 S
SEIRI-------Sorting SEITON-----Systematic SEISO------Cleaning SEIKETU----Standardisation SHIT SUKE----Training & Discipline
5S developed, as with so many of todays best practice tools, in Japan. We first heard of it as one of the techniques that enabled what we then termed Just in Time Manufacturing. The Massachusetts Institute of Technologys 5-year study into the future of the automobile in the late 1980s[2] identified that the term was inappropriate since the Japanese success was built upon far more than components arriving only at the time of requirement. John Krafcik, a researcher on the project, ascribed Lean to the collective techniques being used in Japanese automobile manufacturing; it reflected the focus on waste in all its forms that was central to the Japanese approach. Minimised inventory was only one aspect of performance levels in companies such as Toyota [3] and in itself only arose from progress in fields such as quality assurance and Andon boards to highlight problems for immediate action. 5S was developed by Hiroyuki Hirano within his overall approach to production systems. Many Western managers coming removed stored elsewhere or eliminated completely. By differentiating between Seiri and Seiton, Hirano made the distinction explicit. He taught his audience that any effort to consider layout and flow before the removal of the unnecessary items was likely to lead to a sub-optimal solution.

5.1
After joining as GET (Graduate Engineer Trainee) in the company we have gone through a very good induction period of one month in which we learnt each and every function of the company , its working culture , our colleagues , and after the completion of the induction programme. They gave me my responsibilities and duties in production department under the guidance of Mr. Sandeep Malik (Associate manager) where I am working as a GET in brand section (arttdinox and krome) .where I am expected to fulfill my targets and my targets are as under: To improve productivity To reduce rejections and rework in weld shop and polishing dept. To improve OEE i.e Overall Equipment Efficiency Ensure on time delivery from lathe shop and weld shop According to companys terminology, they called these responsibilities as KEY RESPONSIBLE AREAS (KRA) a type of score card in which every employee has its monthly , quaterly and annual targets, and on the basis of the individual performance one has to rate himself by GRADES (A,B,C,D) and then it has to be verified by the boss.
Based on the KRA grade we have got a PLI scheme i.e Performance Linked Incentive .
xl
As a new joinee every employer has its default grade as C so its mine but in the 4th month i.e the month of april my rating was found to B.
5.2
IMPROVEMNENT PROJECT- To improve the quality as well as life of the draw tool
The panel of experts in the company decided to give me an improvement project as I joined the organization with a lot of expectations. They offer me to be a part of team which is going to work on the improvement of the life and quality of the draw tools. I accepted this opportunity and started working on it with the team. The details of the project are as under:
5.2.1 DETAILS
xli
Existing conditions:
The life of tool is 1800 Pcs. After that we need to grind tool again for reuse that tool. Burr on circle causes draw lines and wrinkles on bowls and also affect tool life.
xlii
xliii
After doing a lot of study and we observe that due to some irregularities and burrs on the outer periphery of the circle the pressure plate and tool are gradually degrading. And for this we decided to add an operation in the sequence of the operations. What we did is just have the periphery of the circle polished before the initial operation (draw) in the sequence. So that the burrs can be removed from the periphery of the circle.
xliv
It is observed that now the cycle time of grinding the tool of double action press is increased by a healthy margin. The whole team got satisfied by their efforts.
pic 5.4 image showing that earlier tool breaks after every 1800 strokes
but now the scenario has changed. The tool life has increased and hence the productivity also increased.
xlv
Pic 5.5 tool breakdown slip showing that the no. of pieces before tool grinding requirement is increased to 5020.
5.2.6 RESULTS
Life of tool is increased by 3200 strokes Earlier we use to grind the die after 1800 strokes but now grinding required after 5000 strokes. Productivity is increased as well
