REPORT ON ENGLISH PROGRAMME 1

PROGRAMME

ENGLISH WEEK

Introduction

English is taught in all primary schools in the country with keeping its status as a second language in the country. In order to make English subject interesting, there are many programmes implement in many schools. Besides learning English as second language in the class, English panel also have many interesting activities. These activities will help and make students more interest in learning English. English also know as world language. In learning the English language, students are taught the fundamentals of English grammar and how to use it correctly in both speech and in writing. Students are also taught the English sound system to enable them to pronounce words correctly and to speak fluently with the correct stress and intonation so that from these early stages pupils learn to speak internationally intelligible English. When the English language programmes do many activities also help the pupils to improve their skills in English language and also make the English language interesting.

I am teaching in SJK (Tamil) Kem Askar Melayu Port Dickson. My school panel very active and they run many programmes. One of the programmes is English week. In this English week, there many activities such as quiz, choral speaking, spelling bee, puzzles, crossword puzzles, sings, colouring and story telling. The activities are very interesting. The students enjoying themselves in these activities. The whole week we have to speak in English as well as the students. The students will try their best and talent in these activities and they also can learn more in English. The English week was well planed by the panel and hope will bring awareness about English among the students in our school.

Aim and objectives

This English week which usually will held for one week will have a few objectives and aim. These objectives and aim is usually to achieve certain level English understanding among the students in the school. Following are the objectives of the English week at our school:

To create awareness about the importance of learning English in school. To promote reading English books, both fiction and non-fiction among the students. To stir up the students' interest in learning English through games. To provide an opportunity whereby the students are involved to produce their own English learning materials for exhibition. To motivate and promote the use of the English Language in every day life.

After this programme panel hope the students will able to:

1. To teach method making note easily by Peta Minda. 2. To use terms that easy in English Language. 3. Use strategic management and thinking skills in settling assignment problem during activity. 4. To create awareness about the importance of learning English in school. 5. To stir up the students' interest in learning English through games. 6. To motivate and promote the use of the English Language in every day life

The aim of this programmes are:

Reduce the number of pupils who are unable to master the three main skills in language learning (speaking, reading and writing).

Duration of the programme

This programme usually will held one week with some interesting activities such as quiz, choral speaking, spelling bee, puzzles, crossword puzzles, sings, colouring and story telling with theme of English - Window to the world. There will be programme will be held everyday that means Monday to Friday. During this duration there will be altogether eight activities.

Target group

The target group for this programme is student year1 to year 6. There will be some activities for all level students. The activities depend on the students standard. The activities from year 1 to year 3 will be very easy compare to the student from year 4 to 6. The activities will be more focus to year 6 student because want to improve the English level. It is because this group of students will be sit on UPSR exam.

Strengths of programme

These programmes bring a lot advantages to the students to improve their English especially in grammar and vocabulary. After this programme students have many new words in English and how to use in their daily life. By implement of this programme the English level of the students in school was increase naturally. It shows a great improvement in English speaking among the students at the school. By this programme student able to use speak English very well. Their talking skill is improved. This English explorace have achieved their objective which is:

To create awareness about the importance of learning English in school. To promote reading English books, both fiction and non-fiction among the students. To stir up the students' interest in learning English through games. To provide an opportunity whereby the students are involved to produce their own English learning materials for exhibition. To motivate and promote the use of the English Language in every day life

It also achieve its aim which is:

Reduce the number of pupils who are unable to master the three main skills in language learning (speaking, reading and writing).

Weakness of programme

The major problem face during the English week programme is the leak of support from the student. The student does not join the activities, only very few join the activities. This is due to fail to use the language very well in their daily life. This problem cause the programme less success. Another weakness is the way of handling the programme was very fast. It cause the leak of time to manage the activities to go smooth. This two weakness cause the problem in handling in the programme. Other weakness in this programme are:

Students do not understand English Language nicely. Students do not copy note during the activity with systematic method. Students only hope all of the answers for the question from teacher only. Students does not give focus in activity because do not understand what said by teacher in English Language.

Students as if not interested or lose interest follow in learning process.

Suggestion

Some suggestions for this programme: (a) English teacher are encouraged modify method English week in learning process approach & class especially weak class and medium class. (b) Uses the method of English week in drafting tour program while learn that effective. (c) Uses the method of English week to revise something topic in science syllabus. (d) Uses the method of English week in learning process because it can to control some science concept with more effectiveness. (e) English teacher can use the method of English week at various levels whether in class level, committee or school.

Students as if not interested or lose interest follow in learning process.

ASSIGNMENT 1: Each class required inventing 1/04/2005 one slogan for participant's class and name before 12.30 pm slogan with term in English Language. Send this assignment to your class English teacher before 12.30 AM. The students will that slogan to represent their team in other activities.

ASSIGNMENT 2: Name any material which is 2 4/04/2011 display in school hall in English at Cat Walk English in Launching of English month 2011. ASSIGNMENT 3: Identify and find the Gold Bottle label English Explorace around school on 4 / 04 / 2005 (Monday) from 8.00 am 6.00 pm. This GOLD BOTTLE must be kept by participant until end English Explorace competition. Each bottle contain English words which will be use later.

ASSIGNMENT 4: Students required to find the 5/04/2011 English idioms around the school :

ASSIGNMENT 5: Students required solving the 8/04/2011 puzzle which contain English vocabulary by class and find the meaning of the words. ASSIGNMENT 6: Students required prepare to 11/04/2011 15/04/2011 find Golden Key English Explorace from 11 / 04 / 2011 to 15/04/2011. Each key contain an English word.

ASSIGNMENT 7: Students required to form own 13/04/2011 group. Each group required create poem and sang the poem in song rhythm. Submit the poem to

your class English teacher. 8 ASSIGNMENT 8: Group of participants from 18/04/2011 Assignment 7 required singing the poem at school hall. 9 ASSIGNMENT 9: Students are required to send 20/04/2011 one students form their class for this English word game. Students required to create new words in English in the game chart until the chart full. 10 ASSIGNMENT 10: Bring Golden Bottle and 28/04/2011 golden key any amount many that each class have. Arrange the words in that golden bottle and golden key to form a sentence. Which a form a long sentence will be the winner. 11 Prize giving ceremony.
