1. Objectives
These notes are primarily dedicated to instructors who deliver the Troubleshooting and Maintaining Cisco IP Networks course as an Instructor Led Training (ILT) using the remote lab equipment to perform the associated lab exercises. These notes explain the remote lab implementation and provide the details on the lab setup and positioning within the course for each individual exercise. Whenever needed, additional guidelines are provided to instructors in order to: Deliver the lab sessions at a highest possible quality Achieve the best learning experience for students taking the labs The document addresses all the specifics in implementation of the exercises, provides the notes and warnings to instructors to run the labs without issues and supplies the instructors with information they need to convey to the students.

Lab 1-1: Lab Access


Objectives: You will complete these tasks in this lab: Connect to the assigned workgroup equipment using the Fast Lane remote lab infrastructure. Access the consoles of the routers and switches used in the lab. Access the desktop of the server and clients used in the lab. Additional Setup Notes: There are no additional setup notes. Configuration Files: Access Sheet provided prior to the training session by Fast Lane.

Lab 2-1: Introduction to Troubleshooting


Objectives: You will complete these tasks in this lab: Identify the minimal documentation that is needed for you to troubleshoot effectively. Evaluate troubleshooting methods, communication, and planning.

Additional Setup Notes: During all troubleshooting labs the scheduled configuration backups of the student devices may fail due to lack of connectivity. Please ignore matching warnings on said devices. To restore the lab to complete operational status use the command restore-capstone on all student devices. Configuration Files: Init-2-1 and reload on all student devices to start the troubleshooting lab.

Lab 3-1: Maintenance and Troubleshooting Tools


Objectives: You will complete these tasks in this lab: Distribute troubleshooting tasks among team members based on assigned responsibilities. Document the physical topology to support future troubleshooting tasks. Document the logical topology to support future troubleshooting tasks. Use the available tools to support future troubleshooting tasks. Additional Setup Notes: To restore the lab to complete operational status use the command restore-capstone on all student devices. Lab 4-1: Layer 2 Connectivity and Spanning Tree


Objectives: You will complete these tasks in this lab: Diagnose and resolve Layer 2 connectivity problems. Diagnose and resolve spanning-tree problems. Document troubleshooting progress, configuration changes, and problem resolution. Additional Setup Notes: To restore the lab to complete operational status use the command restore-capstone on all student devices. Lab 4-2: Layer 3 Switching and First-Hop Redundancy


Objectives: You will complete these tasks in this lab: Diagnose and resolve problems related to SVIs and multilayer switching. Diagnose and resolve problems related to FHRPs such as HSRP and GLBP. Document troubleshooting progress, configuration changes, and problem resolution. Additional Setup Notes: To restore the lab to complete operational status use the command restore-capstone on all student devices. Configuration Files: Init-4-2 and reload on all student devices to start the troubleshooting lab.

Lab 5-1: Layer 3 Connectivity and EIGRP


Objectives: You will complete these tasks in this lab: Diagnose and resolve problems related to network layer connectivity. Diagnose and resolve problems related to the EIGRP routing protocol. Document troubleshooting progress, configuration changes, and problem resolution. Additional Setup Notes: To restore the lab to complete operational status use the command restore-capstone on all student devices. Configuration Files: Init-5-1 and reload on all student devices to start the troubleshooting lab.

Lab 5-2: OSPF and Route Redistribution


Objectives: You will complete these tasks in this lab: Diagnose and resolve problems related to the OSPF routing protocol. Diagnose and resolve problems related to route redistribution. Document troubleshooting progress, configuration changes, and problem resolution. Additional Setup Notes: To restore the lab to complete operational status use the command restore-capstone on all student devices. Configuration Files: Init-5-2 and reload on all student devices to start the troubleshooting lab.

Lab 5-3: Border Gateway Protocol


Objectives: You will complete these tasks in this lab: Diagnose and resolve problems related to the BGP exterior gateway protocol. Document troubleshooting progress, configuration changes, and problem resolution. Additional Setup Notes: To restore the lab to complete operational status use the command restore-capstone on all student devices. Configuration Files: Init-5-3 and reload on all student devices to start the troubleshooting lab.

Lab 5-4: Router Performance


Objectives: You will complete these tasks in this lab: Diagnose and resolve problems related to router performance. Document troubleshooting progress, configuration changes, and problem resolution. Additional Setup Notes: To restore the lab to complete operational status use the command restore-capstone on all student devices. Configuration Files: Delete the startup-config (write erase) of each device and reload it. When the devices are reloaded successfully copy the config from the flash into the running-config (copy flash:/tshoot/lab-5-4.cfg running-config). On each Router enable the Interfaces fa0/0, fa0/1, s0/0/0, s0/0/1 (no shutdown).

Lab 6-1: Introduction to Network Security


Objectives: You will complete these tasks in this lab: Diagnose and resolve problems related to router and switch access. Diagnose and resolve problems related to packet filtering using access lists. Document troubleshooting progress, configuration changes, and problem resolution. Additional Setup Notes: To restore the lab to complete operational status use the command restore-capstone on all student devices. To interrupt the boot process of devices Alt+B is the required input on the Fast Lane Remotelab console applet.

Lab 6-2: Cisco IOS Security Features


Objectives: You will complete these tasks in this lab: Diagnose and resolve problems related to switch-based Cisco IOS security features. Diagnose and resolve problems related to router-based Cisco IOS security features. Document troubleshooting progress, configuration changes, and problem resolution. Additional Setup Notes: To restore the lab to complete operational status use the command restore-capstone on all student devices. Configuration Files: Init-6-2 and reload on all student devices to start the troubleshooting lab.

Lab 7-1: Troubleshooting Complex Environments


Objectives: You will complete these tasks in this lab: Diagnose and resolve problems related to any feature, protocol, or technology that could be encountered in a complex, integrated enterprise network. Document troubleshooting progress, configuration changes, and problem resolution.
