Practice Test 3: Spoken Test

The spoken test is scored out of 25 points in total at all levels. Please see the Guide to PTE General at this level for further information. Please note: The design of the practice tests is not identical to actual PTE General tests.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR INTERLOCUTORS


[Start the test with the following] Good morning/afternoon. My names Could you tell me your name, please? [Begin test]

SECTION 10 (1.5 minutes) [Put one of the preliminary prompts and main prompts to the test taker. Use the related follow-up prompts to encourage them to continue talking] Preliminary prompt 1: Main prompt 1: Follow-up prompts:

What do you like to do after school / work? Tell me something about your weekends. What sports do you play? What other hobbies do you have? Where do you usually go on weekends? Do you watch a lot of television? Why / Why not? Do you have a large family? Describe your family. What do you talk about with your family? How much housework do you do? What is your favourite activity that you do with your family? How do you usually spend a day with your family?

What school / college do you go to? Tell me about your school / college. What are your favourite lessons? Which lessons dont you like? Who is your best friend at school / college? How do you travel home from school/college?

What is your job? Tell me about your job. Where do you work? Do you like your job? Why / Why not? What time do you start in the morning? How do you go to work?

SECTION 12 (2 minutes) Now, here is a picture of a Sunday market. Please tell me what you can see and what is happening in the picture. [Hand the picture to the test taker] [Allow the test taker to speak for about 1 minute. If necessary, use the following prompts to sustain the discourse] What is the little boy doing? What is the weather like? What time is it? Can you describe this person? What is this person wearing? [Retrieve the picture] [Indicate the person chosen] [Indicate the person chosen]

SECTION 13 (1.5 minutes) Now we are going to take part in a role play. Here is a card with the situation on it. [Hand the card to the test taker] [Allow up to 15 seconds to study the card] Test takers card You are a customer at the entrance to the zoo. The examiner is the ticket seller.

Tell the ticket seller you want two childrens tickets and one adult ticket for the zoo. Say the childrens age. Ask for a map of the zoo. Ask what time the zoo closes.

Interlocutors script We are at the entrance to the zoo. I am the ticket seller and you are a customer. Alright? Ill start.

Hello, how can I help you? Certainly. How old are the children? Thats fine. Here are your tickets. Here you are. The zoo closes at 6 oclock.

[Retrieve the card] Thank you. That is the end of the test.

MATERIALS FOR TEST TAKERS

Card Test takers card You are a customer at the entrance to the zoo. The examiner is the ticket seller.

Tell the ticket seller you want two childrens tickets and one adult ticket for the zoo. Say the childrens age. Ask for a map of the zoo. Ask what time the zoo closes.
