First Christian Church

(Disciples of Christ) Stillwater, Oklahoma

First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) Easter Sunday April 8, 2012 11:10am
The Congregation Gathers to Celebrate
Together we will hear the news of resurrection, and we will respond in songs of praise.

Sharing the Word As part of our service today, we will reflect on the connection between baptism and resurrection. Todays message from Owen Cayton is, "Lets Get It Started!" with scripture from Mark 16:1-8 and Psalm 118:1-2, 14-24. There are some today who have
chosen to be baptized and we will celebrate with them.

Joys, Concerns and Pastoral Prayer Gods heart is always open to Gods people and so we are called together to lift celebrations and concerns in prayer. God joins us in our deepest moments of pain and our greatest moments of joy...and everything in between. We take this time to pray for ourselves, the church, and the world in word and song. Sharing of Ourselves and God in Thanksgiving At the table of God, we offer ourselves and the work of our hands in service to God and the church in the world. In thanksgiving, we bring financial gifts as well as gifts of time and energy and sometimes other gifts like food for the food panty. We also bring bread and cup to place on the table. Communion is observed weekly. This is Christs table and all believers in Him are invited partake. If you wish to participate, please come forward at the invitation to the table. Communion is served by intinction (dipping your bread in the chalice).

Easter Sunday: For Parents of Children As you gather with your children and the rest of the congregation, you might remind them where the story ended last week (Mark 15:37-47). Jesus was taken down from the cross and buried in a tomb. The women saw where Jesus was buried. You might also share with them that Easter Sunday begins in the graveyard. The women have gone to finish taking care of Jesus body. They have returned with the news that Jesus body is gone and have invited us to come and see. As we see what they have observed: See the place where he was laid, See his grave clothes our mourning is turned to praise. The tomb is empty. The alleluias that have been silent through Lent will again cross our lips. It is our greatest desire that everyone in attendance experience a deeper understanding of the significance of Easter. Sometimes our children grasp these simple truths in a better way than we do. It is a great joy to have them included in our worship services. We encourage you to not only teach them about these important traditions but learn from them as well. Watch their expressions and reactions to the service. As you help guide them allow them also to guide you and together we can experience the resurrection of Christ as people of God with a mission to the whole world.

The Congregation Scatters to Serve At the closing of worship, all are invited to commit or recommit ourselves to following Jesus. We are sent forth into the world in song, charged to be disciples in our daily lives.

It is the desire of our elders to be available for spiritual care.
