 Welcome to your bus livery guidelines

Welcome to the Arriva UK Bus vehicle livery guidelines. These replace the existing
‘Internal’ and ‘External’ booklets, both of which were last issued in November 2007.
The new guidelines provide everything you need to know about the necessary legal,
customer information and marketing vinyls required on Arriva buses throughout the
UK. Not only will you find guidance on where to position the various items, there are
also recommendations on the quality of vinyl used and a list of preferred suppliers.
We’ve also included sections on building signage, on-bus digital display, internal
framing options and vehicle paint schemes.
Where possible, we have tried to account for different vehicle specifications, although
it would be impractical to produce a layout for every single bus in the Arriva fleet.
What we have done is provide a generic layout plan, which may need to be adapted
for some vehicle types.
Remember, our buses need to look the part. They represent the Arriva brand to our
customers – a quality, professional, dependable service.

• The driver is only permitted to open the doors at designated

Please follow the guidelines below to ensure we have a consistent and
inclusive approach.
• Contrasting colours – make sure they always display orange/yellow
on a black background
• All destinations/words should be in title case – ie, first letter capital,
the rest lower case. This has been proven to be the most visually
effective format
• Route number should always be nearest to the kerb – ie on the right
hand side as you look at the vehicle

Framing Guidance

Customer Information area:

It is recommended that vehicles are fitted with 2 x A4 clip frames for
customer information notices. These should be positioned on the
bulkhead (behind the driver cab area), in place of any existing customer
notice frames.
Where possible, please ensure that clip frames contain a generic Arriva
message, so that they do not appear empty when there are no current
notices to display.

Coving vinyls/commercial advertising space:

All vehicles currently contain a combination of commercial
advertisements and marketing/customer service information notices on
the coving panel areas, which are above the windows on the inside of
the vehicle. As part of Arriva ‘Polish and Promote’ programme, many
vehicles are now using frames to house these adverts/messages and
there is now an agreed standard for this purpose.
It is the ultimate aim to fit these to all our vehicles, although in the
meantime please ensure that any vinyl applications are evenly spaced
and neat and tidy. For all queries regarding ordering of coving frames,
please contact your regional marketing manager.

External framing:
Instead of using the nearside body for route badging vinyls, another
option is to fit a streetliner frame and use this area for Arriva customer
advertising.
Some new vehicles will only permit this type of frame on one side only,
due to the positioning of emergency doors. If it is only possible to have
one frame fitted, this must be kept aside for commercial advertising and
not used for Arriva campaigns, unless the space is unsold or out of date.
