OBC Rules
1. GENERAL RULES (This is an adaption from International Climbing Rules 2011 and changes / omissions have been made to suit local competition context). The organizer hereby reserved the right to change the rules stated below without prior notice)
1. BOULDERING, CATEGORIES AND ROUTE TYPES
1.1 Bouldering: A number of individual, short, technical routes (boulders) are attempted without a climbing rope but with landing mats for protection. 1.2 The categories for Onsight Bouldering Championships (hereby known as "The Event") will include: a) C Division b) B Division c) A Division d) Novice e) Open e) Team 1.3 Routes and boulders of international competitions shall be attempted either on-sight or flash.
2. CLIMBING WALL
2.1 The entire surface of the climbing wall shall be permitted to be used for climbing, with the following exceptions: . The holes provided in the climbing wall for the placement of bolt-on holds shall not be used for climbing by a competitors hands; . Neither the side edges nor the bottom or top edge of the wall shall be used for climbing. . Edges of volumes cannot be used. 2.2 If there is a need to demarcate holds or areas or features which are not allowed to be used for climbing, then the demarcation shall be made using a continuous and clearly identifiable black marking. If any demarcation other than the above is made, this shall be announced to all competitors. (**Note: The color Black may be substitute with another colour. Competitors are responsible to enquire during the briefing at the isolation area and with the Boulder Judge.)
3. SAFETY
3.1 The competition organiser shall be responsible for maintaining safety within the competition area and in the public section of the arena, and in relation to all activities connected to the running of the competition. 3.2 The Chief Judge, in consultation with the Chief Routesetter, shall have the authority to take decisions in respect to any question of safety within the competition area, including declining to give permission to start or continue any part of the competition. Any official or other person deemed by the Chief Judge to have infringed, or being likely to infringe, on safety procedures shall be subjected to removal from his/her duties and/or dismissal from the competition area. 3.3 Each boulder shall be designed so as to avoid the danger of a competitor's fall injuring the competitor, or injuring or obstructing any other competitor or third party. 3.4 The Chief Judge and the Chief Routesetter shall inspect each route or boulder prior to the start of each round of a competition in order to ensure the maintenance of safety standards.

5. OBSERVATION
5.1 Observation will only be allowed for the Open finals and rounds/categories using the Flash Format. 5.2 While in the observation area, all competitors remain under the rules governing isolation. Competitors shall remain within the designated observation area during the observation period. They are not permitted to climb on the climbing wall or stand on any equipment or furniture. Competitors shall not communicate in any way with any person outside the observation area. They may seek clarification only from judges.

8. TECHNICAL INCIDENTS
8.1 A technical incident is defined as any occurrence that results in a disadvantage or unfair advantage to a competitor which is not the result of an action on the part of the competitor. 8.2 The confirmation or non-confirmation of a technical incident is made by the Chief Judge, if necessary in consultation with the Chief Routesetter. 8.3 The competitor involved in the technical incident may or may not be allowed a re-climb, with the same amount of time left at the time of the incident, but which may not be less than 2 minutes.
9. RESULT LISTS
9.1 At the end of a competition, an official consolidated result list showing the final ranking of all competitors, as well as their results in all rounds of the competition, shall be prepared, signed by the Chief Judge, and published. 9.2 All official result lists shall be prepared in a format as stipulated by the organiser, published on the official competition notice board.

Please kindly enquire with the Chief Judge for the appeal fees and payment and the cross-cheque for appeal should be made to the name of the organizer.
2.1 If an appeal is upheld, the appeals fee shall be returned. If an appeal is rejected, the appeals fee shall not be returned.

OBSERVATION
2.1 In the qualification rounds, there shall be no separate observation period as the observation period is part of the allocated time for the boulder. (Unless the Flash Format is being used.)

3. CLIMBING PROCEDURE Flash Format 3.1 There will be a demonstration climb before the first detail start. 3.2 Climbers will be assigned to climb in details of 10-17 climbers. 3.3 Allocated climbing time is 19mins. Rotation Format
3.1 In the qualification rounds of a competition, competitors shall attempt the boulders in the prescribed order. After each boulder the competitor has a resting period equal to the allocated boulder time, called the rotation period, which shall be 3.5 minutes. (Note: The time stated in 5.4.1 is subject to changes at the discretion of the organizer) 3.2 At the end of the rotation period, the competitors that are climbing shall stop climbing and enter the resting area. This area shall not allow observation of any boulder. The competitor who has finished his/her resting period shall move on to the next boulder. 3.3 The final round for both men & women categories shall be run simultaneously. Each boulder shall be attempted by all competitors, in the order of their starting numbers, before moving on to the next boulder. Both categories shall commence each boulder at the same time, i.e. if all competitors in one category have completed their attempts on a boulder, that category shall wait for the other before starting the next boulder. (Note: The climbing procedure stated in 5.4.3 is subject to changes at the discretion of the organizer) 3.4 The climbing period during the final round shall be 3.5 minutes. However, if a climber begins an attempt prior to the end of the 3.5 minute period, he/she shall be allowed an extra 1min to finish that attempt. If a competitor finishes his/her attempt before 3.5 minutes have passed, he/she shall return to separate isolation in the transit area and the next competitor shall start his/her climbing period immediately. (Note: The time stated in 5.4.4 is subject to changes at the discretion of the organizer) 3.5 All holds shall be cleaned by the Boulder Judge or organising staff before the competitor begins his/her first attempt on a boulder. A competitor may also request that holds be cleaned before any attempt on the boulder. Brushes or other materials may be used by competitors to clean holds that may be reached from the ground. Only brushes or other materials that are provided by the organisers shall be used for this purpose.

5. TECHNICAL INCIDENTS
5.1 A technical incident in bouldering competitions is defined as: A broken or loose hold; Any other occurrence that results in a disadvantage or unfair advantage to a competitor which is not the result of an action on the part of the competitor. 5.2 If, during the qualification rounds, a confirmed technical incident concerns a broken or loose hold or any other occurrence which can be repaired or fixed before the end of the current rotation period, the competitor involved will be offered the opportunity to continue with his/her attempts. If the competitor chooses to continue, then the technical incident is finished and no further appeals shall be allowed. If the competitor chooses not to continue his/her attempts within the current rotation period, then the competitor will resume his/her attempts on the boulder where the technical incident occurred after completing the competition round. In this case, the Chief Judge will decide when a break shall be made to allow the competitor to continue his/her attempts. The competitor shall be allowed the time remaining at the moment when the incident occurred, with a minimum of two minutes. (Note: The time stated in 5.6.2 is subject to changes at the discretion of the organizer) 5.3 If a technical incident occurs during the final round, the competitor suffering the technical incident shall return to separate isolation in the transit zone and await the repair. When the repair has been effectuated, the competitor shall re-commence his/her attempts. The competitor shall be allowed the time remaining at the moment when the technical incident occurred, with a minimum of two minutes. (Note: The time stated in 5.6.4 is subject to changes at the discretion of the organizer) 5.4 In case of a technical incident, the first attempt made by the competitor who has suffered the technical incident, on the same boulder, after the attempt in which the technical incident occurred shall be deemed a continuation of that attempt.
