Please Read Before Ordering: Pipe size is the accepted industry designation, not the actual
measured size. To determine pipe size, first use a ruler to measure the outside diameter (OD) or
inside diameter (ID), as shown at left. Then, round up the measurement to the closest OD or ID
listed in the chart and select the corresponding pipe size. For example, if the OD or ID measures
13/16, the next highest OD or ID is 13/8 and the corresponding pipe size is 1.

Flared tube fittings are for use with metal tubing that can be flared. The flared
angle on these fittings mates with the flared angle on the tubing for a tight, reliable
connection. Flared fittings have a simple design consisting of a body and nut (the 37
flared fittings also require a sleeve). To install, begin by cutting your tubing squarely
and removing all burrs. Slide the nut (and sleeve if applicable) onto the tubing, with
the threaded end of the nut facing outward. Flare the end of the tubing with a flaring
tool (sold separately, see page 2322). Tighten the body onto the nut and the sleeve,
making sure the flared end of the tubing is set between them.

Also known as AN fittings, these fittings are made to exact AS (formerly AN)
specifications. Not only are these fittings manufactured to tighter tolerances than
other 37 flared fittings, the nut/tube ends have 3A and 3B threads, which adhere
to higher tolerances than all other nut/tube end threads. They meet ASTM A380 and
SAE AS4841. Fittings are made of forged or bar stock Type 304 stainless steel and are
furnished as a body only; nuts and sleeves are sold separately. Use with water, air, oil,
and hydraulic fluid. Not rated for sterilization or vacuum. Pipe connections are ANPT,
which are compatible with NPT. Nut/tube ends have UNJF straight screw threads.

Also known as JIC (Joint Industrial Council) fittings, these fittings connect BSPT (British Standard Pipe Taper)
and BSPP (British Standard Pipe Parallel). They require the use of tubing that has been flared to 37 for a tight
seal. All fittings are made of forged or bar stock Type 316 stainless steel and meet SAE J514 and MIL-F-18866.
They come with a body; the nuts and sleeves are sold separately on page 161. Fittings with BSPP threads also
include an O-ring and bonded washer. The 90 elbow with BSPP threads has an adjustable nut that orients the
fitting before connecting. Use with water, air, steam, natural gas, oil, and solvents. Not rated for sterilization or
vacuum. Pipe connections are BSPT or BSPP. Nut/tube ends have UNF straight screw threads.
