The Nutcracker
Last month my grandma gave me two tickets to go to the Royal Opera House to see Tchaikovsky’s classic ballet
The Nutcracker. 1 It is very popular, and many people love it. I was so excited to be able to see it.
From the first moment, I felt like I was in a magical world of young children, parents, toys, snowflakes and sweets,
all set to Tchaikovsky’s amazing music. The main ballerina was amazing, her movements were so graceful and
skilled, and all the other dancers were amazing too. 2 A young girl, Clara, goes downstairs one night to play
with her favourite toy, a nutcracker. A mysterious magician changes the room and the toys come to life and giant
rats come out to fight them. The Mouse King attacks Clara’s nutcracker, but Clara saves him. Then, Clara and the
nutcracker fly on a golden sleigh through the Land of Snow to the Kingdom of Sweets - the Sugar Plum Fairy lives
there. The fairy performs incredible dances. In the end, Clara must leave. 3
If you ever get the chance to see The Nutcracker wherever you are, take it. You won’t regret it and you will surely
find that this amazing ballet.
